Hey,

going to build a new rig for a friend again. Following specs so far:

CPU: Intel C2D E8500
RAM: GEIL BlackDragon 4096MB DDR2 800MhZ
GPU: XFX Nvidia Geforce 8800GTS 512MB XXX
HD: 2x Seagate Barracuda 400GB

As my friend mostly plays some online FPS like CS:S and BF2 he doenst care too much about SLI or high resolution graphics.

But he wants to toy around with his CPU as I know him.

What Motherboard do you guys suggest? Chipset, brand. Price limit circa 150-180€.

Should I go for a Intel X38 or X48 chipset? Or better trust Nvidias Nforce chipsets?!

No X38/48 mobos are in the price range. Except for maybe the cheap ass ABIT.

I suggest grabbing a solid P35.

If he can afford it : http://www.komplett.de/k/ki.aspx?sku=342074

If he can't : http://www.komplett.de/k/ki.aspx?sku=340951 or a Gigabyte P35

Go for x38. p35 doesn't support pci-x2.0 standards and penryn is better supported on x38.

well, another 20-30€ shouldnt be a problem for him I´d say...

What about the RAM, those X38 MoBo´s support up to 1600MhZ, should we go for such RAM?

I recommend Asus P5E X38. One of the cheapest X38 mobos but definately excellent mobo.

You only need up to 1066, and that is going ultra.
