I had braces for four years. And it hurt everytime they tightened them but you'll get used to that. I also had to wear rubber bands attached to litte pins on the braces to correct my bite. Trust me, that is annoying.

I had some gear in the upper row as a teenager which I had to wear for a couple hours a day. Should've taken the whole set though. Now I have a tooth in the lower row which is a bit sideways and it annoys me like hell Still could get it fixed though. Just gonna cost like hell. So you be a good boy now and think of the good result you'll have when they're gone. In junior high there was a girl in my class who had braces and everyone was picking on her time to time. Saw her a couple years after junior high and oh shit. She was good looking

They dont look like that, thankfully. Just brackets with a single wire going across for top/bottom.

I had mine for 6 months and was done. They hurt a bit when they are first put on or get tightened, but other than that its fine.

I had it worse though, stupid orthodontist women was too busy chatting to her assistant to remember to cut the wire at one end, kept impaling the inside of my cheek until I could get it sorted out the next day, that was painful

I got them on about...6 months ago. I never believed my brothers when they said "in three weeks you'll have forgotten what it is like to not have braces, and you'll be eating solid food again in no time" - they were right. After a week or so I was eating pizza (admittedly...it hurt a little to tear it off but this pain is good - it helps your mouth be less aware of smaller pains)

Trust me, in less than two weeks you'll be right on your way. You might even find yourself eating soft foods again pretty quickly. One tip I can give you is that your mouth can swell a bit and at night you might find you can't fall asleep because of the pressure on your teeth - two painkillers sorted this out after about 20 minutes for me!

Oh, and tightening? Don't worry about it. Had my first tightening a month ago and I was still able to bite off foods and so on. After a day it was like they had never been tightened.

Haha, my bro has them right now, I don't. He said they hurt for the first couple of days/weeks but then you just get used to them

I had a pair of braces that you could take in and out, two giant lumps of plastic with a metal wire along the front of each. Horrible to wear, though it helped pull my bottom jaw forward slowly its starting to go back now.

I had braces for 2 years, and here's my advice and knowledge gained from that time:

Yes, at first they will hurt like hell.  But slowly, they'll hurt less and less, and they for which they hurt after each new adjustment will last for a shorter amount of time as your teeth move into their intended position.

NEVER, EVER, under any circumstances, attempt to chew gum, especially bubbalicious - you'll spend a great deal of time picking it out of your braces.

You might notice you now have a slight lisp/whatever you want to call it to your speech.

I guess for the pain, be a man and deal with it, and if it's unbearable, get some advil or tylenol or whatever and take that to ease the pain.  But I wouldn't go poking around with tools on your braces - don't mess them up and somehow make yourself have to wear your braces longer since you messed them up.

OH, and most importantly, wear your retainer every day and hour after you get your braces off, otherwise your teeth will move right back into their old spots.  I wore my retainer off and on, and it shows: some of my teeth have spaced out again and aren't as straight anymore (but still an improvement over what I had before).

just put up with the pain, that;s what i did and it goes down quickly. mine was worse because somehow one of the brackets came off the second I got back into school. oh, and commandochristian, it isn't 100% critical. i broke mine, and was w/o retibner for prbably abiout 3 weeks. my teeth are rgiht back to where they should be. but yeah, keep it in except for meals and don't fiddle with it ( braces OR retainer). I kept fiddling with my retainer, and I had more emergency appointments than regular ones.  mine went from nearly bucvk-teethed to fairly normal in 2 years, with probably half that wearing a retainer full-time. the retainer time is a guess, as my braces only came off about 6 months ago.

ONE over thing you get the pleaser of every 6 weeks having a thicker wire which in turn makes your teeth hurt like SHIT!! for another 3 days which is not coool! and yer take ibrufen it works good and buy some stuff for alsers cus in about a week your gums are going to be cut too shit and get some of that wax shit to put on your braces cus it does help and i no the feeling man its like if you bite hard your tooth will falll out nd then you get a massive pain running up the die of your face its not fund but mine look more straight already.  alll you have to do i power throug the pain you get used to it lol after a few times it only hurts for one day and ive had mine in 2.7 years to be exact!

I got braces a year and half ago they didnt hurt when I got them put on o_O. I would expect the pain to go away in a couple days take some advil if the pain is too unbearable. If they are cutting your mouth the doctor should have given you wax so you can stick it on and you feel fine I had that problem one time, put some wax on boom fixed.
