Yes, you could run CSS and BF2 with no problems on either rig. From the two, I'd get the XPS 1530 since it's smaller, but still packs a decent punch. Plus, it's loads cheaper.

However, if you're intent on getting a notebook with 17" screen with 8800m-GTX capabilities, get the Sager NP5792 or the Sager NP9262. Better value, better build, better specs than the Dell. They apparently run surprisingly cool. The latter notebook uses desktop processors and can have three hard drives. But they're expensive, although less so than the Dell for similar specs.

Just bought one for my son a week ago.  Works great but it cost me 3 grand.  Had it upgraded to the max.

Runs all the new games, including DX 10 games...WOW

Well, what's your budget?

Oh and I forgot to ask the first time, is there any particular reason you want a laptop over a desktop? I'm sure you know this already but, you can get a desktop that is a lot better than any notebook at a quarter of the price.

I could build a system that can perform just as well for pretty much half the cost

To be honest, you'd be hard pressed to find a real "gaming" notebook, they're all over the 2k price range. You could probably configure the Dell 1530 for a decent configuration, just make sure you get the 8600m GT and don't get a RAM upgrade (All companies overprice the RAM upgrades, just buy a kit yourself and upgrade).

or go for a desktop. I'm pretty sure that with $1300, you can get yourself a pretty decent desktop. There are a lot of other people here that can help you with that far more than I ever could.

Wait for that Alienware M17x, or go with the M15x, great looking machines.  Am looking into the m15x myself, imo, 17inches, is a bit big for a laptop, less u are using it as a desktop replacement.

Check out these ones:

The last 4, very nice laptops with an excellent price to performance ratio. They also look awesome, particularly in real life (saw one in Best Buy, the trim around the keyboard is really cool).
