Basically all the kid learnt from this is:

- He can backtalk to police officers.
- He can resist confiscation of an item by a police officer.

Im sure this kid wont grown into a total asshole now... /sarcasm

Exactly. What is he supposed to do? let him leave with his laptop?

Should be like this in every self defence case.

Kids are assholes. Im one of them, yet I believe I understand respect, only people I will back talk to are parents and siblings(who doesnt). Wont do it to a uncle, aunt, grandparent, or the president. Ive been that kid with the video camera(without the camera, I was just standing there) was on of my friends* was being a asswipe towards the cop. Cop took his skate board as well. Friend had been smoking a joint. Cop walked by and he asked the cop if he wanted a pull. Cop flipped shit when he found out it wasnt a cig.

*Friend is a loose term, it refers to roughly 100 people. He was just one of those kids I hang with like once a year.

Half the time self defense is illegal and the person who was protecting him/herself or other is the one treated like the criminal. Its pathetic.

Shit. Forgot to add the part of the story where the cop flipped. But yeah, I know a few cops that are like that. Few of the hall monitors at school often light up afterwards, one of em is 72.

Addressing police officers as "sir" and no "dude" will slightly decrease chance of ass-beat. With that being said, "dude" is much preferred over "nigger" and "pig" for addressing a police officer.

Was "Shit. Forgot to add the part of the story where the cop flipped." meant to be sarcasm?

Just checking.

I know he flipped out, just wanted to check if he accidentally smoked some. Or realised just before he tried some.

If you were a grown up and did what the kid did you would be under arrest in a second. To be fair to the officer he didnt assault him from what i saw. He tried to confiscate his skate board and the kid resisted.
based on what law? so far anglo-american law is comparable to german law i can say there is no reasonable motivation for that. because in german law you cant just confiscate things as you wish, and of course not for the reason the cop had. had this happend in germany this cop could kiss his sorry ass goodbye.

Reminds me of another time. Was at a party and the cops pulled up. I was a few blocks away and I could hear my one friend, who actually is a good friend, scream out "Shit run, the po po is here!!!"

police should not act arbitrarily. therefore are laws: to provide stability of and the trust in society. if this fails we have african conditions where the cops want money for leaving you in peace just because they can and they know you have money. or in the balkans or in russia or everywhere  we see unstable and uncivilized nations. a man who cant control himself should not be in charge of possibly controlling other people. thats just it.

You see, everyone is saying this is an issue of respect. My question is, why exactly should he be adressing this guy as "sir" when he's acting like an asshole? If a cop pulls me over or comes and talks to me or something, I'll treat him respectfully, just like a normal guy. We wouldn't have a problem. But if a cop comes up, flipping out, over reacting, and generally acting like an ass, then no, I'm not going to treat him respectfully, and I'm sure as hell not going to call him sir.

i believe both were in the wrong, but mostly the kid.

it doesn't matter what the fuck is going on. if somebody in an authority power tells you to do something, you do it, and you do it politely. (would you back talk your boss when he told you to get a report in by thursday? no, you'll do it, or lose your job.) then, you contest it with a judge. a policeman is not there to argue. thats what the courts are for.

the cop probably overreacted a little bit, but i still think he was within operational parameters.

edit: i take that back. the cop was 100 percent in the right. that kid was a fucking dumbass.

You find me an officer in Europe who would handle a situation like that, and I'll agree, but you wont be able to.

Just a fat fuck on a power trip, overly patronising .

It sounded like something out of the school playground, not a police officer.

WTF ARE YOU THINKING... that kid was being nice... are they supposed to look up all the ordinances that the city/ state has? i could understand a warning but this went way to far.
I didn't know "respect" was a a city/state ordinance
I didn't know that skating as a hobby is disrespectful.

no, he did. the kid wasn't listening to him, and when the cop demanded he hand over the skateboard he tried to fight. you don't do that. never. never.

you don't interrupt the cop, and you don't bitch, and you don't do what he just told you not to do.

there was no assault.

When you have to deal with back-talking, selfish, immature, and disrespectful idiots like the police officer does, he is going to snap eventually. it's not like he was power tripping; he was sick of dealing with pathetic excuses for people.

Honestly, everyone who hates the cop for this probably fits int he above described demographic. Sorry, but that is the only kind of person who hate the cop so much for doing what he did.

You can find dumb shits like that everywhere. For example, you have people 20 times worse over in the UK with your chavs. Also, to pretend police officers only act like that in the US is just ignorant. It happens everywhere, if you dont believe it, thats your problem, I aint gonna waste my time finding a source.
