PNY g92 or EVGA 8800GT

So here is my decision point. I think I know the answer but wanted to get your opinions. The options are both from newegg and are the following:

EVGA GeForce 8800GT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 for $239.99 http://www.newegg.com/product/product.a … 6814130318

or

PNY G92 GeForce 8800GT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 for $249.99 http://www.newegg.com/product/product.a … 6814133205

I know the EVGA comes with the trade up option which is nice, but I will NOT be trading up within 90 days. I know evga cards are well made, but are PNY cards any good?

EVGA > PNY. It is a real G92.. Why wouldn't it be? Besides all cards from different brands are manufactured at the same places anyway. The EVGA is cheaper, has a good customer service and yes, the step-up program. No reason to go with the PNY here.

All 8800gt = G92. The g92 distinction only need apply when talking about the GTS models.

Get the EVGA.

Get the EVGA. Not saying that PNY is bad, their 6600 AGP is pumping along nicely in my chat computer, but EVGA has a lot better price/performance ration here, since it's basically the same card.

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP
