Recently this fucker said an independent Kosovo would be immoral and illegal.

Moscow has repeatedly hinted it could respond to an independent Kosovo by recognising South Ossetia and Abkhazia. Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Moscow would "adjust its line" on the regions, but did not say how. Kosovo may declare independence this weekend, and the US and most EU states are expected to recognise it quickly. Most people in South Ossetia and Abkhazia, which have enjoyed de facto independence since the early 1990s, already have Russian citizenship. Georgia accuses Russia of supporting both regions, in order to undermine its own attempts to build a strong and independent nation state.

And their threats mean shit anyway, there are plenty of anti-ballistic missiles around Russia and as soon as they fire a missile all western countries will stop all diplomatic contact with them, and its gonna be "Russia vs. the world" all over again.

Well, I wouldn't be sarcastic about situation in Abkhazia and Northern Ossetia - I have closer example of de-facto independent republic but yet not recognized by other states - Transnistria. De-jure it is still part of Moldova Republic, though de-facto it is independent state. I know a lot of transnistrians myself - none of them want Transnistria to become Moldova's part again. They all want independence because of raising nationalism in Moldova (90% of Transnistirans are ethnic Ukrainians and Russians)

Well Kosovo would hardly be able to get up for itself, russia & serbia have a long relationship, and the serbs don't want to loose kosovo. On the other hand, Kosovo wishes to get it's independence and get along with the EU. We're going to push through I know, but I wonder what Putin is going to do against it.

He may be a fucktard now and then, but damn is he a smart one. He chooses his words carefully in most occasions and sometimes makes very good remarks. (Although, I don't support Russia and any ideas he's bringing up on the table now, F him.)

I'm Irish and I'm with you .Sup. No independence for Kosovo. There is already a country in existence for non-Serbian Kosovars - it's called ALBANIA. I find it ironic that Russia are backing the Serbs though - for decades and centuries they've been attempting to colonise places like Georgia, Azerbaijan, Ukraine, the Baltics, Chechnya, etc. with ethnic Russian so they can lay claim to them. The Brits attempted it in Ireland - they sent over thousands of British 'planters' to establish a British population in our country, most successfully in the north: which is where 30 years of severe carnage raged from the late 60s onwards (after 800 years of varying degrees of carnage). Stealth, that's what it is.

There is a very good reason why Russia is backing Serbia - to spread its influence like, as you said, they always been trying to do. As I said in the other active thread about the same topic, in my opinion Russia wants Kosovo to become independent. Of course for one, they want to continue backing the independence movements in various regions in neighboring countries. But honestly they don't really need independent Kosovo for that. Its not like EU will stand up to Russia. But what what independent Kosovo gives them is Serbia. They wont colonize it of course (those times are over) but they will control it economically and extremely influence it politically. Thats something they cant do if Kosovo stays Serbian.

Putin is not a communist just because he was in the KGB, Yeltsin was senior enough in the communist party and look how he turned out. Its just the era in which he was born.
