EVGA vs. XFX

Before you post, read what I have to say. I've always gone XFX, but I've heard how great EVGA is. I like that both companies cover overclocking. However, I like EVGA's step-up program, which XFX doesn't have.

I want to know if the larger heatsink makes up for the $20 price difference between the EVGA and XFX.

I have the more expensive version of that xfx 8800gt, which has a larger heatsink. Even with that, the temperatures can go up to 70 or 80 on low fan speeds. So, going for a smaller heatsink might not be such a good idea.

They look to be the same price here. But, if you aren't limited by budget, get a G92 GTS. Much better cooling all around.

I have always had a tendency for going towards XFX because that's all I've ever owned (GFX cards that is) so I would say the XFX.

Dont get me wrong though, XFX is a good second choice, albeit sometimes more expensive. If EVGA didnt exist, Id prefer XFX to all the other companies.

Is the dual slot 8800GT cooler that much more expensive (for the evga that is)? Think there claiming 20c off load temps, which is always a good thing.

In this case i would go for the eVGA, not cause am a fanboy, just the better cooler here, if it was the larger cooler, as in covering who PCB, I would probably say XFX. Had a few XFX cards and had nothing but top notch service and reliability. Although, same can be said for eVGA, despite my 680i breaking on me twice, they did replace it, but meh.

Both EVGA and XFX makes excellent quality products and have excellent customer support. The only things that set the 2 apart are the more specialist support services each of them offer; from EVGA - the step up program, from XFX - the double lifetime warranty (warranty can be transferred to a second owner, excellent for keeping up resale value). Both of these services are great.

I've owned various offerings from both companies, excellent products. So you can't really go wrong here.

But cooling these hot-bitches is problematic. I've gone back to the factory default clock settings (from my OC-ing). This things get so f-ing hot. Until I can get something to cool these (better than the air-cooling I am doing now) I'll leave them as is. By they way I have an Ultra and it gets really hot in game (did I say really hot x3! ).

negative, the leadtek one has tempsensors. Even when it's OC'd it won't get that hot. And besides you can always stick a few ram-heatsinks on em for like $5. Plus the fact that a 8800GT + custome cooler = No warranty and more expensive than a 8800GT with an factory ZM cooler.

Actually it doesnt void the warranty contrary to belief. You can just pop the old one back on if something happens to it and you have to send it back, no one will care, same with overclocking. The Leadtek one looks quite good, but I wouldnt buy the other ones other than the ASUS.

The asus one doesn't have any temp sensors. The MSI & gigabyte ones score good in the reviews. Couldn't find one about the leadtek one, but as my friend is happy with it I don't need an review.

Because the 9800GX2 is the new "future card". There is no reason to buy anything better than the GT at this time.
