Things are getting worse and worse for sad ol' HD DVD. Sony's work paid off... they took the gamble with implementing Blu-ray in PS3s (which made them pretty pricey for many months) but in the end, HD DVD is being stripped of whatever chance it had. This comment on Digg sums it up best

"Wow. Just a few months ago it was "wait until the $199 Chinese HD DVD player hits Wal-Mart...it will be unstoppable for HD DVD!"....and now....HD DVD is that roadkill you see every car run over on the highway...so disfigured, you can't even identify what it was anymore."

edit: For everyone who lives under a rock and doesn't get why this matters... Wal-Mart is freaking huge, and if Blu-ray's the only option available to its shoppers... obviously, people will buy Blu!

I think it has been decided.

The 21 century beta VCR has been identified.

Too bad they wouldn't just work together in the beginning.  Both would have wlaked away better off.  I guess it doesn't matter to Sony, but if the Blu-ray tanked, different story.  A big gamble IMO.  Business, Srs Bsns

Well, they could still use HD-DVD.  Just cause the format didn't win the race, doesn't mean its now useless.  Actually, it's already in the works to have a Disc Reader that can read BOTH formats, it's just expensive right now.  A matter of time really.

The 360 already has an HD-DVD attachment you can put on the side.

Transformers was/is the only movie truly keeping the HD a-float, in sales numbers nothing in Blu-ray has touched the sells of Transformers

If the last 2 companies signed on to HD DVD get an iota of intelligence into their heads they'll jump ship as well.

If Blu-ray sells more why WOULDN'T you sign on to it?

@Jenspm, wouldn't surprise me. Also, before people say "irony"... Sony isn't the only manufacturer of Blu-ray drives. They just did the majority of development for it / are the biggest backers of it.

Who would make the players. I though toshiba was the main contractor and now they are gone.

I can just imagine all the havoc being created if Microsoft switched format. They will betray all the customers who have bought that player.
