Each time I read news about AMD's best processors getting delayed again, or their stuff not performing as well as Intel or nVidia (ATI = AMD now, basically)... I don't like it. Not because of fanboyism but because back in "the day" (read: 4 or 3 years ago), AMD was some very strong competition for Intel. It's like only yesterday when I thought that getting an Athlon 64 3200 was awesome. Or even more ancient, an Athlon XP 2500+ Mobile (they were mean overclockers).

Now that AMD is in "trouble" at least with their gaming-grade stuff, is anyone else worried that Intel and nVidia will start upping prices? I don't want it to end up where Intel/nVidia are as dominant as Microsoft and can do whatever they want.

I still think AMD will come out ahead in the end with their CPU and GPU combinations.

If AMD stops existing, Intel's product prices will go up since there won't be any competition so yes I hope they make it.

Yeah but only to drive down prices.  I couldnt care less what the brand name says when I run CPU-z, so long as its fast and cheap.

I do, so there's competition. Not only are there more competitive prices when there's competition, but there's a drive for better, faster, and more efficient parts.

You'll know it's over when you see AMD doing a commercial like the latest Mac vs. PC commercials.

When's the last time you saw a commercial advertising specifically for a processor?

AMD used to shit on Intel in all areas all the time. Now its the other way around. It once was that AMD's chips were 20% faster and 10% cheaper, now its the other way around. I was a fan of AMD chips for that and because I had a certain dislike of all the n00b computers (Dell, IBM etc) used Intels.

Also as ReDevil said, there needs to be competition. Macs used to be pathetic back in the late 90's and early 00's as they didn't try to compete with Windows. Now that they are competing both companies are trying to out due the other and from that the winner is the consumer. That's how and why Capitalism works.

I think AMD's gonna do a strike towards the mid/low-end market, with cheap, hot processors and graphics cards, which will perform enough for the averege user at a good price.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

AMD's really doing shit atm... They're always a couple of steps behind Intel. If they don't do something, Intel's going to get the absolute monopoly.

Yep, I have to agree. Unless they have something pretty serious up their sleeve I can see them dominating low-mid range market and laptops. Saying this, I expect they have something prepared. I can't wait to see the results of the next GPU!

Their Spider platform sounds promising. AMD 790FX Chipset, 2x ATI 3870X2(when the drivers come out), AMD 9700 Phenom, OCZ certified Crossfire RAM.

AMD needs to get the TLB erratum bug-fixed Phenoms out ASAP. Unlike it is said everywhere, It CAN affect normal users. I know one very pissed off guy who is having freezing issues at stock clocks. All AMD said is kthxbye gl next time (after confirming that it is the TLB bug that is causing that)... Some ppl are trying to get the 9650 (new revision) because of the TLB bug... I wish them good luck and I hope they don't need to take legal actions against AMD.
