I would connect my speakers to x-fi and headphones to Supremefx. Can i set this in Windows and is there an easy way to switch from one card to another?

Yes you can.  Just change the default sound device to whichever card you want to use at the time in control panel.

I use my surround sound with my X-Fi card and have an amp and two hi-fi speakers connected to the headphone port on my motherboard sound - using a 3.5mm to phono jack.

Change by using 'Sound' on control panel. (I made a shortcut for it on the desktop).

Go on control panel, click on 'hardware and sound' (vista), right click 'on sound' > create shortcut.

You can make the shortcut in xp aswell.

However, changing between two sound devices isn't as easy.

I had to go onto the properties of one and disable it. Leaving the one I want to use enabled.

So switching between devices only works good in Vista?

It works fine in xp. You just have to click..... 4 more times with the mouse!

Switching devices is the same in XP.  Just change the default sound device.  You don't have to disable anything.

I'm not sure about creating shortcuts to do it, as I don't use them.

this is why i like having a usb headset.  I just set the usb headset as the default sound card (it is it's own sound card so to say) when i want to use my speakers i just have to unplug the headset and it automatically switches to the sound card and switches back when i plug the headset back in.
