Hey guys a little help here,
My dad has a older laptop, Gateway M305CRV
Well i guess today he tried starting it up and it makes the sound like its running but no picture.
When i tried starting it today the only thing that came up with the gateway start picture with white lines going thru it, tried pushing f10 and f2 but it was like it was frozen there, so i restarted it. Made the sound of it booting up but no picture....
Any ideas whats going on and how to maybe fix it?

Best bet would be to call the company you bought it from, or the Laptop's manufacturer's company.. Your problem can't be unique, so they should know what's up with it.

talked to a guy from gateway and did some trouble shooting and said the hard drive might be bad, that sound right?

with freezing at the boot screen, there might be a problem with the hd. But, those lines look like a graphics problem.

A HD problem shouldn't cause this kind of problem. Most likely a gfx problem. Just to be on the safe side, take the HD out of the laptop and try again. With the HD removed you can still access the BIOS

If the hdd is bad, it wouldn't start up.  Laptops are weird because they are the hardest things to fix.  Considering the age (and manufacturer...), it might be time to get a new laptop.

Send it to Gateway/get a new one. The graphics card is screwed.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

the inverter cable could be loose.  push around on the back of the lcd and see if it affects the picture.  if it does get messed up or better when you push on it, u just need a new cable ($45).  If nothing happens, it could where the cable connects to the system board.  you'll have to take it apart to test that, but it's not really hard.  just make sure you don't lose any screws.

but as far as the not booting up to windows or crashing in the bios, that is most likely a system board issue.  take out the hard drive and hook it up to a desktop.  that way you can save the data.
