Hi i don't know a lot on computers but, i was wondering what type of PSU would i be looking for if i got a 8800GT 512MB OC? i have 230V at the moment which I'm guessing isn't the best.

Haha! That made my evening, wether it was intentional or not.

Anyhow, if you have a 230w PSU, you've got other things to think about than a new graphics card.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

500-550 watts would be fine. 230 watts is like...horrid.

my specs are:

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz (4 CPUs), ~2.4GHz
Memory: 3070MB RAM
Hard Drive: 492 GB
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT
Sound Card: Speakers (Realtek High Definition Audio)
Operating System: Windows Vista™ Home Premium

what needs changing to get the graphics card?

Im suprised you got such a low psu with such a system, although the graphics are a bit sub-par the rest is pretty good.  You should only need to replace the psu, everything else looks good.

ok, thats what i though, so i should only need a 500+ psu and then get the graphics card. then everything should be fine?

Is this a brand name computer or a built one?

I think he's referring to the VOLTAGE of his PSU, and not the wattage...
