The so-called "Mosquito" device emits high-frequency noise which is audible — and annoying — to young ears, but generally not heard by people over 20.
How is that even possible to do?

Now old people will put it on their lawns. Greeeeeeeeeeeat.

And it's possible because certain frequencies die out once you get past a certain age.

Dunno if it's true or not, but I heard if you hear a ringing in your ears after a loud explosion or a concert, your ear cells begin to die, and you'll never hear that frequency again after it stops.

The human ear usually can ear, at birth, something like 20-20000Hz (I think?). As age progresses, the ears become weaker and you cannot hear such low or high sounds. And so, older people cannot here such high frequencies when younger people can.

I watched this on the news the other night. Apparently some groups are trying to ban this because it's inhumane.

i can hear those things really well, but they don't affect me lol, so once i was just standing out side a shop and refused to move cos the shop keeper said we were "scaring away customers", he even called the police who promptly tried to move us on, which we refused and he couldn't do anything about, public footpath ftw!!! lol

Hehe.  My grandfather has one of those devices that only cats and dogs are supposed to be able to hear.  I'm not in my teens anymore but I can still hear it and it keeps me away.

I do not see how this can possibly work.  Listen to the current "hit" songs and you'll know that the kiddies flock to ear piercing shit.

I hate it when some young asshole thinks he's not causing trouble when he won't fuck off when he's told, and then goes on to waste police time.
