It's a big paper but it's not due for a few months... but we do have to have a topic selected tomorrow.

I really don't know what to write about. There are a few general topics that seem interesting, but I need help narrowing down topics

Neglect of Vietnam veterans
Something with the Gulf War (Desert Storm)
NATO bombing campaign in Kosovo

Any ideas on how I can narrow those down?

Personally, I'd write something good about the gulf war, seeing as there are some good sources on this forum (vets) and probably because I'm a military fanatic .

Write something about some kind of alternate history, like a paper about something that happened in history, and what might happen if something different happened, such as the confederates winning Gettysburg or something.

Does it have to be on those 3 topics you posted? If not..
Go for the Cold War, or the Bismarckian period - both very interesting

Somebody has been reading too much Harry Turtledove.

@OP:  I would write a paper on build-up to war for Desert Storm.  How long does it need to be?

I wish I could do that.

No it's not limited to those 3 topics, those are just 3 that are particularly interesting. If I did the Gulf War, what would I say The US kicked Iraq's ass?

I did a gulf war paper for my senior project ........ A all the way ....... and if I could find it, I would let you copy it but it was pretty much an entire overview of what happend for us to go to war, preparation for the war , movement to the desert, entering in Kuwait, what happened during, how it resloved, then what we did on the way out

Here's one area I've always been interested in exploring:

Concerning the First Gulf War, the politics (perhaps related to public opinion) behind the Presidential/military decision to not overthrow the Iraqi government.  They just .... stopped.  And, how this decision impacted, perhaps, decisions for Gulf War II

to keep israel out of the conflict, thereby preventing  the dissolution of support from allied arab states.

I realize Israel is a factor here, but there is much more to this.  Again, I also think the decision has major impacts on how Gulf War II was prosecuted.

War of Independence?-New tactics.
War of 1812?-Boosted USA's self confidence after a deadlock draw.
Invasion of Iraq?-A poorly organised war, only one winner and no permission from UN to attack. (Mandate?)

There are other political questions raised by the first gulf war. Why did the west support Saddam when he invaded Iran, using WMDs on troops and civillians and killing around a million Iranians yet when he invades Kuwait, a far lesser crime, the west respond with a huge military campaign?

a part of me thinks deep down inside that the 12 year delay in taking baghdad was intentional.  but, any closer we were to have gone towards baghdad would have meant NBC weapons aimed at isreal, which would have meant israeli retaliation.

I just have a lot of questions, here.  Which is why I want Hurricane to write the paper on this subject and then post it here for us to read, debate, and critique.
