Building a computer, will this work?

Oh hai guise

I realize you're going to want to point out how average these parts are. I also realize that you're going to tell me to spend more to buy better hardware. Before you do that, read the following and keep it in mind:

* I am building this PC for a WoW player.
* His needs are WoW and internets.
* His current PC cannot even do the aforementioned properly
* with shipping costs and what I earn included, this is as much as I can spend of his money on a PC.
* He already has a DVD-drive
* Mention 8800gt's and i will set you on fire

and on the hardware side of things: My choices for the C2D's are 4600 and lower, or 6550 and higher. No 6300's to be found. The case seems to be good and is my customer's choice.

So, am i missing anything?

If not, then switch to a DX9 card, since 8600 is pretty pointless.

Also even a P31 would be more than enough for mobo

nope, and an 8600 is useless for dx10 anyway. You're right, i'll find a different DX9 card. the only problem is, retailers have switched to DX10 cards en masse

nope, and an 8600 is useless for dx10 anyway. You're right, i'll find a different DX9 card.

8600 is useless for gaming in DX10, but it can be used for other DX10 stuff. But yea, no vista, no need for it.

DX9 is not for sale anymore in holland: the only card I could find that was more than a 50 euro budget desktop card was the x1900gt, which is no better than the 8600

The X1900 will kick the 8600's ass. Hard. A 7600GT would be a really good choice otherways. My GS runs BF2 maxed with 4x AA, so, surely would a GT run WoW maxed. It's basically an 8600 without DX10 capabilities anyhow.

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

are u happy wit your case ?...lol....the rest of your components seem fine ...go with a 7600gt...my mate has one ...an it will run all the dx9 games on high so no worries there...plus there cheap wit all the 8800's comin out if u really cant get one ...then yer a 8600gt would be ur second best choice

While i agree that getting any x19 card is the better choice, in the interests of not sacrificing time+cheap shipping costs for marginal performance differences in a game that doesn't need them, I've gone with the DX10 card. Thank you for your help. If you do spot any critical problems with this build, point them out to me and all I shall proceed to panic and then e-mail alternate.nl to cancel the order

ATI 3870's are ~$200. 2xxx's are even less, and the X1K series is being phased out. Tell me again why X19 would be a better choice for anything?

GET AN 8800GT IT IS SO MUCH BETTER THAN THE 8600GTS
