I have a Dell XPS 700.

Pentium(R) D CPU 3.00GHz
2.99 GHz, 4 GB of Ram

Running XP media 32 bit

2 x Nvidia Geforce 7800 GTX's in SLI mode.

My question is.  Should I upgrade to the 8800 GTX SC.  Ovbiously 2 8800's in SLI mode would kick ass... But realistically, is one of these better than both of my 7800's?  Am I really gonna notice the difference?  I play BF2, COD4, Flight Simulator types of games.

Thanks for the input.
I stood in line for four hours. They better give me a Wal-Mart gift card, or something.  - Rodney Booker, Job Fair attendee.

I think you should wait till the 9600gt comes out and either single or sli those. It comes out within or around a week. Its almost as good as a 8800gt and should have a 30-50 or so dollars less when they come out.

Nvidia could have made their numbering system easier.

Yeah but the 9600 is almost as good as a 8800. The 8600 is better than the 7600 but not the 7900.

Then they may be a GS or GT which is a big difference.

I agree with this.
The numbering sucks from a consumer's POV, but it makes nVidia quite a bit of money.

Take the dual 8800GT 512mb o/c SLI

Did a quick look on tomshardware.com and the 8800GT 512 slighty outperforms the 8800GTX 768mb in SLI (and not to mention its WAY cheaper)..... well in Aussie anyways..... and besides if you kept waiting for the next best thing to come along, then nothing will get done and you wont have a PC cos you'll always be waiting "for the next best thing that's a few months away and is just around the corner".......

PS As your PC is a Dell, I would ask Dell tech support if it can take non-Dell products...... It would REALLY suck arse if you bought 2 new video cards only to find out that they wont work in your PC. Not every Dell PC will accept non-Dell components.

8800GTX (especially SC) will be by far superior to the cards you have now. Also, why, if he aims for an 8800GTX (you know.. performance..?) would he get a 9600GT which is a lot worse And yes, because of the similar price and slightly better performance 2x 8800GT is also possible.
