Newegg Open Box vs. Ebay (quick responses would be appreciated)

In my never ending quest to get a dual core for my Socket 939 computer, I've basically come down to choosing between Ebay and open box on Newegg.

Open box seems to have significantly lower prices than Ebay, and it seems that the processors will be in no worse condition than one would receive from Ebay. Additionally, I like the idea of buying from Newegg over Ebay, and the DOA protection is the same, if not better. So, would it be a bad idea to purchase an Open box processor on Newegg, or would I be doing myself a gigantic favor by choosing this route over Ebay?

I think ebay might screw you (depends on the seller) if its used or w.e

however with an open box they have strict returns, especially on processors on Newegg, plus your backed by Newegg...

what are the return policies for newegg? Internets not loading newegg for me :\

I'd go for the open box. Remember that you need to get a heatsink as well because 99% of the open box CPUs do not include a heatsink.

I'd def order from Newegg. In fact, I'm gonna go on there and start searching for a new Laptop.

there are several options on Ebay/paypal to get your money back if you receive a DOA. and ALOT of Ebays auctions are SEALED new.

I was following the "get thermal paste and recycle my old stock cooler" theory. But thanks for reminding me.

If anyone has ordered any open-box items off of Newegg before, it would be nice if I could get some feedback concerning how they looked, how well they worked, and any problem experienced.

Your next door to cali, so not only will the motherboard be cheaper than Ebay, but you'll get it 2 days after you place the order.

Even more of a reason to get it from newegg, there's less that can go wrong(given you don't put the thermal paste on the wrong side[lol- commie]).

I forgot to ask what the difference is between open box and OEM. Could someone please enlighten?

Open box = could be returned, scratches, or anything that would not make it brand new.

OEM = new without box and hs.

I was just looking at neweggs return policy on open box items, and you have 15 days after purchase to return it. I would make sure to put that proc. through some stress tests before those 2 weeks ran out.
