He probably feeds it feeder rats. Much different. These are domesticated rats.
Sorry but we feed those types of rats to the snakes as well as the little feeder rats to his young boa, corn snake, and python.
we feed those bigger ones to the big boas
and in the picture thats his burmese python which we have fed a rabbit and hamster to haha (big guy has to eat) which is at his friends house right now
Meh.

Even if, domesticated rats are incredibly smart and great pets. I love mine. Something about him...I dunno. He's just cool.

Snakes are cool too, though. My uncle had a boa constrictor when he was younger.

You HAVE to keep a ferret pretty clean, otherwise they will smell, and a few people I know, who didn't take of of thier ferret, the ferret stunk and all got rashes.

Not a hell of alot of work, but some.  Keep the cages clean, they are shit factories.   Bathe as much as recommended, and follow that recommendation, what ever it may be.

I had ferrets for a year or so before we got rid of them.  Odd that your friend has a breeding pair, they usually come neutered right from the breeder so that they can have a monopoly on the industry.  They were cute, but not worth the hassle so we got rid of them. Couple things:

1. Mine never bit, they were really docile that way.

2. They will get everywhere you don't want them to.  For us, that meant crawling into an in-wall fireplace, and chewing a hole into the bottom of the couch and crawling up inside.  You won't be able to get them out until they decide to come out on their own, which can be incredibly frustrating.

3. Potty training... some might, but it's not guaranteed like a dog.  This is the main reason we got rid of our two.  Cleaning their shit up off the rug is not very fun.  Not small like hamster shit either, think like a pencil-diameter 4" log soaking in a big puddle of piss.  The other problem is they can whip those off pretty fucking quick; if you aren't watching them constantly they will do it without you knowing and you won't find it for a good long time.

Good luck if you do end up getting them.

Lovely looking Snake.  Certanly not my cup of tea.  I don't agree with you when you say "Thats a real pet".

I have a dog and a gecko, I don't see the Gecko as a "Real pet" but I do the dog.

Explain to someone who thinks snakes like that are a danger to the community you live in that it is in fact a "Real Pet".

Pet to me is something that you can take out with you to the park with other pets.  Something that wants to sit on your lap.  Something that wants to curl up infront of the fire.  Something that wants to interact with fellow species.

Please don't think I'm some kind of snake hater, far from it I love all animals except cats, horses n donkeys.  Even though they sell them in "Pet Shops" I don't see it as a pet.  The snake looks well loved and well looked after and I am sure the collection is treated how I treat my kids but I see it as a Dangerous animal.  I suppose you would say the same about my Staffordshire Pitbull Terrier (on the dangerous dogs list).

And yes the snakes are well taken care of, feed on a regular basis and proper lighting and handled a lot. Most people are afraid of snakes, but we try and show anyone that comes over to try and least hold or touch it to see ours aren't dangerous.
and about your dog, i think pitbulls are fine dogs to have. i have a lab/hound mix and she is a ok size dog but i swear she thinks sometimes shes a little lap dog lol (she is more dangerous when new people come over then the snakes are lol, good watch dog)

Oh good, Im glad you see where Im coming from and didnt take offence.  Every week I am in a reptile shop buing crickets for my Leopard Gecko and always look at the range of snakes but would never have one.

A simular reptile shop used to be in business but due to the owner importing banned animals his licence of revoked and he was jailed.  He used to put the things in his suitcase of personal luggae belive it or not.  Before it closed they used to do birthdays for kids, 3 or 4 of the staff would put various reptiles into pillow cases load the van up and turn up at the young kids house who party it was.  They would get the kids into a cirlce on the floor and walk up and unzip the bags so that the snakes etc dropped onto the floor.  I was gobsmacked at what I saw.......

The parent's all legged it and the 4/5/6/7 year olds all reached forward to feel the animals showing no fear.

I used to be fine with spiders but probably not now.

I agree with you as "Real Pet" now I see where our coming from.  Bit like Croc Dundee when he pulls a knife and says "That aint a knife, this is a Knife" and flashes some 18" machette.  Theres not many pets that would scare yours off.

Thats just mean to do to a snake. If you start throwing them around they will get pissed off just like any animal and would take action in warning you to leave it alone.

I can see you not wanting to buy one since you have children in the house, but if you take care of it you dont have anything to worry about. And by holding it alot tames the animal, letting it get use to your smell.

If you ever thought about getting just a small snake, get a little ribbon snake. They are really small and eat like gold fish or something. Very tame and cool little things to have. That or a small corn snake.

a friend of mine has one. we let him round around for like 10 minutes then go look for him. (like hide and seek)
