when im bored while a game is loading i read mags or game manuals
i was flicking through a BF2 manual and read the System Requirments for gfx cards:

game manual wrote:

Video card:
128mb video cards with 1.4 pixel shader support

ATI Radeon 8500
ATI Radeon 9600 Pro + XT
ATI Radeon 9700
ATI Radeon 9800
where the hell is the Radeon 9200?
it just jumps from 8500 to 9600
i can play bf2 but its at minimal settings ie.
shadows, terrian, AA and Light cant be turned above off
i just get line of red text

Spec:
Intel Pentium 4 2.66GHz

HIGHTECH EXCALUBUR Radeon 9200 VIVO

1.5 GB RAM

NOTE:
DO NOT tell me to upgrade
the GFX card is AGP, to upgrade i must get a new motherboard
and with a new motherboard the processor wont work
so in turn buying a new pc
wasting money

I had a 9200 on my old computer. Ran everything on low settings, and I couldn't find that card under the requirements. It played the game though, terribly.

Wasting money?  It's time for a new pc.  Even new ones can play bf2 with the onboard gfx.

what i meant was
if i bought a new motherboard (£60 -£90)
nothing would work
then buying a new pc (£800+)

i would buy one if i could

So if you won't upgrade to pci-e, upgrade to a better agp card. Get a radeon 9800 or a geforce 6800 or 7800.

Dude, there are plenty of AGP cards on the market.
No, they won't have the same performance of the high end PCI-e cards, but they'll work much better than the one you have now.

I just upgraded from a 9600XT to a HD2600XT. I'm able to run with all on high/medium with a FPS that won't dip below 30.

LOL, you could buy some used AGP card for 10 euro which is a few times faster than yours,
but you open a thread and moan about some stupid 3 year old manual page.

The best AGP card you can get that won't be massively bottlenecked by your CPU is the x1950 Pro. You can pick one up for around £100 new, and cheaper if you search around eBay. But this card does require a hefty amount of power so check your PSU before spending all your cash on one.

Failing that, you can pick up the card I have (HD2600XT) for around £60.

nVidia cards, although they own the top half of the market, fall down when it comes to price/performance in AGP in my opinion.

why are you whining like a little bitch, don't come and complain about how shitty your computer is if you don't want to take any of our suggestions. there is no reason to put any money into that pc. you should let frezerpro use as a foot stool in his toilet.

Search for AGP graphics card or something, it really isn't that difficult.

I recently upgraded from a 9600XT 256mb to a X1650pro 512MB. I was playing the game on low with everything good turned off. With the X1650pro, I have the game set to max at 1280*1024.  It looks like day and night. Plays very smooth.  The card made a HUGE difference in visual gaming performance.  I chose the X1650pro over a X1950 or HD2600 card based on 1) cost and 2) power supply limitations.

The clincher: the card cost me $70 plus $6 for shipping. So far, worth every penny. I have extended my AGP rig for a little longer.

I don't know if that helps you or not.

For £200, he could get a few parts for a budget Core2Duo system, that card would be a complete waste of cash.
Not only is it EXTREMELY overpriced, it will get beaten on all accounts by the x1950.

You don't really need any of that stuff anyways, its a distraction. I play with everything at low/off except geometry (high) and view distance (100%)
