And surely Vista 64-bit?

Since 32-bit is the same as 32-bit XP when it comes to RAM.
I'll start with 32-bit as I already have it burned on a DVD. Then I'll probably dl 64-bit.

@ zenmaster: I have a 7900GT
FYI: You can't upgrade 32bit to 64bit in place. You'll have to install the 64bit OS clean, then re-install all your applications over. Then delete the old Windows32 bit directory, as that will just be taking up space at that point.
Yeah, I know, but I can't dl the 64-bit version untill I get these new parts

You don't have an Internet connection now?
and/or
You don't have a Vista Key now?

Because if you have a Vista Key and an Internet connection now, you can DL the 64bit version ISO and burn it as either a DVD disk or a multi-CD installation disk-set.

He doesn't need a Vista key to download the ISO of the 64bit version. He only needs the key to activate it. I was wondering why he would want to do 2-installs vs 1-install. And, I was wondering what is it in his mind that is preventing him from getting the download. ISOs are not illegal to download and burn to a DVD or CD. The use is piracy. Having an install is not piracy. If he's purchasing Vista (getting a Vista key) anways, he'll only have to do the installation once.

I'm on my iPod touch. My PC is fucked. I need these parts and I'll have a PC again. I currently have vista 32 bit w/ crack burned to a DVD. So I'll install that, and when that works, I'll download and install 64-bit

I meant it in a joking way. He isn't going to buy Vista. He is getting it "cracked".

just had countless driver problems with my mobo, and I cba re-installing everything and going through blue-screens etc. Also, it won't give power to my keyboard until windows is fully loaded, so I can't change the boot options or anything, so I'm pretty much stuck.

just so you know as your new mobo may be the same (my abit ip35-pro is) you have to find the option to enable usb keyboard (if it usb) in the bios. otherwise you can't use a usb keyboard for boot options and so forth.

no problem. I always use a ps/2 when i first build just to speed things up but later find the bios enabled usb because you need it to get into safemode.

btw, is there any difference between getting 2 x 2GB and 4 x 1GB ram? If not, I might as well get 2x2, so I can up it to 4x2 later if I want.

Get the 2x 2GB kit. The difference is minimal unless you are extreme overclocker.

Hrm, ram is dirt cheap anyway. Any downsides to getting 8GB?

Nothing I could think of. But that money would be well spent on something else.
