  • Quick Question, should I change my HD (Price/Comparison)

I currently have a 150GB Raptor. I was wondering if it'd be in my best interests to switch to the Seagate Barracuda, As I CAN'T STAND THE RATTLING of the Raptor. I know someone that can clone the drive, so I'm not worried about re-formatting the drive. I'm wondering if it'd be worth it to do the switch over.

Thanks.

are you sure you can't fix it with a couple of extra screws in the hard drive, i had and fixed that problem like that with a different drive.  If you got the money and wanna burn it, buy a new hdd...

send me your old one

The noise is from within, not the vibrations on the case it causes.

well if it really bugs you taht much, the other hdd seems pretty sweet, so go for it if you got the money.

I'll still take your old one lol

Dude, I know exactly what you mean. A few weeks ago I picked up vista64 and a 150gb raptor so I could have a dual-boot setup. If it wasn't just for gaming, then it would drive me crazy.

TBH, I really didn't see a big difference between running the vista64 on the raptor vs. vista32 on my 300gb seagate. Waste of $350 IMO. I get better 3dmark scores on my seagate setup, so I say make the switch.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking, plus the seagate I chose has a 32MB buffer, as opposed to the 16MB, so I think I'll see an improvement from that alone with games.

shouldn't be a huge improvement, most of the game data is stored to your ram, so don't expect a huge jump

I traded my 74 gig raptor for a 320 gig baracuda because i needed more space for games and can't really tell a difference. IMO unless you have the money to burn raptors aren't worth the price premium.  Also the baracuda is quieter but the raptor never bothered me.

Hmm.. Seems like a winner to me, we'll see how far my next paycheck takes me. I think I'll benefit most from the extra space, Raptors are just so small. I've got all my media on my backup drives as it is!
