i tried updating my driver for the 780i last night and i think i did it right but how do i know? where can i go to see what version i have installed?
Go to
Control panel -> System -> Device manager -> System devices
look for something nvidia or chipset related stuff, right click it, properties, driver. there should be info about the driver version and date.
I for example see there that my x38 chipset driver is 8.3.x.xxx depending on the device.
I hope that helps. If not, I'm sure we find some other way.

3930K | H100i | RIVF | 16GB DDR3 | GTX 480 | AX750 | 800D | 512GB SSD | 3TB HDD | Xonar DX | W8
that is where I went but I couldn't find anything. Did I not install the updated drivers correctly?
[Start] -> [Control Panel] -> [System] -> [Hardware : tab] -> [Device Manager] -> [System Devices] (Which is near the bottom of the list).
You'll find your chipset drivers there.

Nforce (Nvidia) drivers are also for IDE ATA/ATAPI/SATA/SCSI controllers - check that in the device manager list as well.

Thanks, i will check it out when i get home.
so i went into system devices and scrolled down to NVIDIA nForce System Management Properties and then went to the driver tab and then i went to get driver deatils and it says no drivers files are required or have been lost for this device.
Is this bad? does that mean i didn't install the drivers correctly?

Windows sometimes lies about driver versions. My 6800Ultra video card's still reads 6. something or other, even when I've long since installed drivers starting with larger digits altogether.
