In AIT we had some visiting Navy high-muckity muck stop by so we got to do the whole formal inspection thing, standing in the Texas (Goodfellow AFB) summer heat for 2 hours for some kind of ceremony. Before the show, one of the AIT instructors came by the smoke pit and went into a long tirade about smokers and how if any of us fell out he'd have our ass...and he made sure we (the 9 smokers in our platoon) were all in the first rank so he could "keep an eye on us."
About 20 minutes into the ceremony, we start seeing bullets of sweat shooting from his neck (he was platoon leader for the ceremony). 5 minutes after that, he keels over twitching. Not a single one of us smokers moved - until the 1SG snapped at me to take his place from the 1st squad leader position
