Well my friend wants to be able to play bf2 and also 2142 with me, but he doesnt know if it will work. TF2 is kinda laggy for him. his specs are:
AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 3600+
1.90 Ghz. 1.00 GB RAM
ATI Radeon X1300 PRO
I know his processor and RAM will be fine for the lower settings, but i know jack shit about ATI cards. How do x1300s run?

Thanks for your input.

I've never dealt with ati so I couldn't help you on the card, but honestly, 1 gb is pushing it

the graphics card is crappy but will do on low or even medium. better would be 2 gigs of ram of course. but all in all it would run

I'm running 1 gig in my machine, and it runs fine.
I've got the x1600pro, though... but his cpu is better. (Athalon 300+)

You can always try the demo

I think it would. The 1 gig of ram will make loading slower though. If you can spend a few extra bucks, get 2

Is an X1300 PRO better than a 9600XT? Cause I played bf2 fine with an Athlon 3000+, 1GB DDR266 RAM, and a 9600XT. It just didn't look pretty.

i dont know anything about ATI, but i know the rest of his stuff will be fine. i used to play this game on my old comp with pentium 4 2.4GHz processor, 768MB RAM, and geforce 5700 256 MB card. it was all on low and lagged a tiny bit when crazy stuff goes on. i was just asking because as i said i dont know anything about how ATI is compared to the nvidia cards.

thanks for the help people.

Sure it will run. I run it with 1 gig and 9600xt and that's even a more crappy GPU. Maybe it can cause a little lag on high (especially at the beginning of rounds) so I would advice to stick on medium (or low if you like low loading times).

so:
Low->smooth
medium->smooth, little longer loading times
high->lag at begin of round. Might go away after 3-5 minutes. don't put AA on though.

It will run.

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

The card will work fine, i've seen the same card do BF2 on highest settings when it was backed by a Core 2 Duo on my friends computer.  It makes it run REALLY hot when you do that so I wouldn't recommend it, god forbid that card should ever end up in the same mobo as a C2D for any of you, lol.  Like everyone else said, you might want to upgrade the RAM at some point.

Yes, it's like two generations ahead of the 9600.  Although the 9600 was meant to be a mid-level card and the 1300 was meant to be low-level.  Even so, the 1300 should still be significantly better based on its technology.

You can run BF2 on 512 if you use a paging file.

X300 and X1300 are about the same. The X1300 is just like 15% faster.

So his computer should run BF2. The rest of his system is better than mine too. I have
3.00 GHz Pentium D Processor
1 GB DDR2 RAM
