Which is the best system you can build for 1000 bucks (US prices)?

Edit: Don't include any monitor, sweet keyboards or G5/G7 mouses.  Everything else must be included.

You forgot the RAM & PSU, and get the E8400 and a 8800GTS.

Would I be losing much performance with this card instead of an 8800 series?

Not much. Probably better bang for buck. Too. You could also skimp on the case, I mean shit it's just a case. No need to splash out alot on a god damn case. Amirite.

I want a good case, but it's not the priority tbh.  I'd rather spend the money on the card, mobo, processor and a good HD.  I'm buying 4 GB ram.  Would that be ok or are these German guys making Crysis 2 to run with 24 GB only?

8800GTX
4GB PC2 6400 RAM
Q6600

plays Crysis on High (Very High too but not that great) if they do what they said with Crysis 2 aka making the graphics even better then yeah we need pc the size of mars

I think for the vid card the 8800GTS 512mb would be the best pick, then E8400 (for gaming) 4GB of OSZ PC2 6400 RAM, maybe Antec 900 case? (comes without PSU tho) and then some sort of HD size, Samsung Spinpoint is good (what I have heard)

would come close or over your budget tho.

oo, forgot HDD, but that won't cost much.

You could swap the 8800 with a 9600GT if you want.

note - I picked the Q6600 because the e8400 was out of stock.

If you wait until March, the 9800 series will be in full swing, allowing you to grab 8800's at even lower costs. X48 motherboards will drive X38's and older down in price, and a more extensive line of 45nm CPU's will be available. I know 'wait until' threads are annoying, but Feb's a terrible time to buy this year.

Open box motherboard?

Yeah, never ask the internet to get you something. Everybody is a fucking salesman that will try to get you to buy something more expensive. Fucking hell
