So I connect to the internet using a USB Belkin Wireless Adapter. So they other day I went to a LAN event and I connect to their server through cable. Therefore I didn't need my wireless adapter at all so i didn't use it for the entire weekend. I come home and I plug it in to a USB port and it says that it can't be recognised and that a driver isn't installed for the hardware. So I put it into the USB port I've always had it in, but they in just says the same thing. So I uninstalled the drivers from the disc I got with it, and then reinstalled them, plugged the adapter in and it still says the same, so my computer is left with no internet.

Btw it's not my USB ports cos my keyboard, mouse and printer are working as well as my USB flash drive.

Thanks guys.

How are you posting then? Also new drivers are worth a try ... you've just been installing/removing the old ones ... quote me the make/model and i'll check it out

edit : just remembered my bro had a belkin (g or g+) and after not using it for a few days (i think) it wouldn't work for him either. Ended up taking it back and getting a D-Link adapter, been fine ever since.

I'd get a new one but this one has worked fine for me for ages and it's one of the few wireless adapters that actually doesn't cut you off constantly when your gaming.

btw i got drivers on my computer by downloading on my bros comp, that didn't work, however this time when i tired to install via the CD it say that a locked file was needed to access, it's never said that before but im gonna reboot like it said and se what happns

Ok so i managed to install the drivers via the install new hardware wizard. But when i finished, it said 'This device cannot start (Code 10). So it came up with a troubleshooter that said I should reinstall my hardware which I did but it said the same thing!

Any Ideas?

restart?

lol I have no idea, I was gonna suggest manually setting up the connection but I think that won't make the slightest bit of difference

I would probably try going into [control panel > network connections] and deleting all network connections. then reboot and let windows re-install them. have your driver cd ready.

The USB thing is not the router, it's the wireless adapter for his own computer. I think you mean he should use a wired connection to the router, in which case I agree.

I've had all sorts of problems with USB adapters, particularly their software. I would have to reinstall the drivers damn near every time the thing got plugged in, but I can't really tell what's wrong with yours.

What does it say when you look in the Device Manager?
