Anyone noticed petrol prices going up up up ? And also, none of the manufacterers of cars are bringing out high performance ones anymore.

IS oil running out finally, or is it just a side effect of the "war on terror" in iraq ?

Discuss.

It's a side effect of many things, not just the war in Iraq.

Oil prices will almost always go up.  Increased demand/consumption and the failure of oil discovery and production to rise comparatively to that demand will cause oil to continuously rise until either,  a) alternative fuels are so common/desired that they weaken the demand; b) oil discovery/production increases to a rate higher than demand/consumption; or c) a combination of both a) and b).

Sure it does, just not as much as a lot of people think.

China, India, oil price speculators, war in Iraq, threats against Iran, Nigeria being a complete fucking basketcase of a country, Venezuela nationalising the oil industry, OPEC cutting output... etc.

Pfft.

Iraqi oil output only reached it's pre-war level in December 2007.

Supply, demand, prices: you know how it works I'm sure.

I think using Iraq is a cheap excuse by these fuckers to tear more money out of our pockets tbh.

It's only one of many factors driving the price.

the higher the price of oil, the more wells become viable.

at $60 a barrel, some wells are not cost effective. At $100 they are.

Unless there's a drastic drop in demand, why not charge the most possible?

The 70% of traffic that speeds by me during my commute tells me that gas is still quite affordable for my fellow Americans. Go ahead OPEC raise it some more.

we are in fact not running out of oil, there is plenty left in the world. the problem is opec controls it, and in the U.S. there are only like 18 refineries so we can't produce as much gas so it's priced higher, and we probably won't make many more refineries cuz they're bad for the environment.

edit: idk if that's the case in other countries though.

I say this: the higher the price of oil the better - it'll get us up off our asses to figure out a long long overdue sustainable alternative.

The television unit says it's at $100 a barrel, again, and Opec is cutting production.  I've seen prices go from $3.00 to $3.55 in about a week here.

I blame China too.  Fuel war will occur within the next decade since it's a national security issue for us and probably the other countries of the world.  and of course the USA won't evolve away from fossil fuel, so I predict Armageddon will be fuel warfare related!

Well you guys use far more than you actually need. A little bit of economising on the gas guzzlers would probably stave off a war by a decade.

You've never had that happen before?  It's a credit card company practice to reduce fraud, or so the reasoning goes.

If you're being serious, you either have a huge gas tank, or gas prices are high as fuck where you are.
