Does anyone know anything on this subject? I'm not trying to make a nuke, I was just looking through lists of college majors at UMD (granted this is a Grad School major but I digress), and nuclear engineering caught my eye.

What's the pay for someone with a nuclear engineering degree? What could I really do besides work at research labs or power plants (or maybe some sort of nuclear research in the DoD?)?

Nuclear radiation can be used as cemo-therapy (i know I just spelt that wrong). You could possibly work in a hospital with that sort of degree.

Nuclear engineers do work mostly in nuclear power plants, but there are some openings in astronomy, fuel enrichment, and research,  as for pay, you can likely expect to start around $70-80,000, but it increases really fast with experience, and it isn't uncommon to break $200,000 or more a year.

Probably use it to work in the Dep of Energy.

I actually looked into a few years ago (I'm electrical engineering) and the average starting pay in 50-60K.  Not a bad choice.

lol, you haven't seen the curriculum, it's what anyone who goes through 4-6 years of that deserves.

It is a HARD program to get into.  You really have to know your STUFF.  IF you get in though, YOU are sure to TAKE a lot of difficult classes.  A lot of nuclear engineers feel pretty BLUE after a couple quarters.  Sometimes they have to take a caffiene PILL to help them study.

This is a great degree to get if you want to go into the Navy ... they need Nuke Engies on their subs.  Also, this is an undergrad degree at many universities.

army ROTC for me >.> but yeah, I saw that the Navy even has a program for members of the service to study to become nuclear engineers / technicians

idk, I'm really uncertain on what I truly want to study. Part of me wants some sort of engineering degree, part of me wants something with medicine, a bit wants something like biotech or biochem...

I was also thinking nuke subs, I would imagine if you went into the Navy first and then went to get a degree in that area they would pay everything.

Every Nuclear Engineer I knew was in the Navy ROTC.  Honestly, there may be other career paths, but that was what I observed.
