Oh zhe climate, its a natural wonderful thing. I think humans and our ways have attributed to many things concerning our climate, but nothing compared to the natural forces of mother nature. That said i wish to post something I found today to add to zhe discussion. Looks like pretty sound scientific evidence prevails, IMO. So READ IT DAMMIT :P

dailytech.com wrote:

Twelve-month long drop in world temperatures wipes out a century of warming

Over the past year, anecdotal evidence for a cooling planet has exploded. China has its coldest winter in 100 years. Baghdad sees its first snow in all recorded history. North America has the most snowcover in 50 years, with places like Wisconsin the highest since record-keeping began. Record levels of Antarctic sea ice, record cold in Minnesota, Texas, Florida, Mexico, Australia, Iran, Greece, South Africa, Greenland, Argentina, Chile -- the list goes on and on.

No more than anecdotal evidence, to be sure. But now, that evidence has been supplanted by hard scientific fact. All four major global temperature tracking outlets (Hadley, NASA's GISS, UAH, RSS) have released updated data. All show that over the past year, global temperatures have dropped precipitously.

Meteorologist Anthony Watts compiled the results of all the sources. The total amount of cooling ranges from 0.65C up to 0.75C -- a value large enough to erase nearly all the global warming recorded over the past 100 years. All in one year time. For all sources, it's the single fastest temperature change ever recorded, either up or down.

Scientists quoted in a past DailyTech article link the cooling to reduced solar activity which they claim is a much larger driver of climate change than man-made greenhouse gases. The dramatic cooling seen in just 12 months time seems to bear that out. While the data doesn't itself disprove that carbon dioxide is acting to warm the planet, it does demonstrate clearly that more powerful factors are now cooling it.

Let's hope those factors stop fast. Cold is more damaging than heat. The mean temperature of the planet is about 54 degrees. Humans -- and most of the crops and animals we depend on -- prefer a temperature closer to 70.

Historically, the warm periods such as the Medieval Climate Optimum were beneficial for civilization. Corresponding cooling events such as the Little Ice Age, though, were uniformly bad news.

Natural cycles will continue with or without our input, the natural cycle will go up and down in a pretty similar way as in history. The problem is that our pollution of the atmosphere will boost the effects, generally moving the average over which the variations take place to a higher value. The global temperature will go up, down, stagnate as before, but with a slight boost from our effects. When the natural cycles hit peaks, those peaks will be significantly worse. Those peaks have historically been catastrophic. The link says the recent cooling is due to a reduction in solar output, which may be true. In which case this ISN'T in any way proof that man-made global warming isn't occuring. It's a seperate natural event that is obscuring the trend.

Nobody has ever found any way to deny that adding CO2 to the atmosphere will increase the temperature of the planet.

So fuck you (I dont care if its from the solar flares or pollution, but the world is definately warming!).

climate change happens, you're not going to start it, and you can't stop it.

It isn't doomsday, life on earth has survived gamma bursts, comet impacts, massive climactic shifts, and total atmospheric makeup shifts.  I think it can survive a few degrees...

That is the fourth time you've posted that.

That's the fourth time you've completely ignored the FUCKING SCALE.

Let me give you a piece of information. It's a graph from the same source, so you should lap it up.

https://www.mongabay.com/images/external/2005/co2_var.jpg

Does that look like a 'cycle' to you? Or have you just ignored the fact that the scale on your graph stops at 280ppm and current levels have gone from 280 ppm to near 400 ppm in two centuries?

Realise that an increase of 10 ppm in ten thousand years is natural. A hundred ppm in a hundredth of that time is not. That would be an increase that is ten thousand times greater than normal.

Here's a hint. People aren't talking about the destruction of the fucking world. What people are talking about is seriously economic and social carnage in a century's time.

I still fail to see the logic of 'one person says different thus the whole scientific community is wrong, thus global warming is bullshit, thus we should go on fucking our planet three ways from Sunday'.

This is something that I found.

Good explanation of what I think explains why this summer is so cool compared to last, and why the next 6-12 months will be cooler than usual. Before getting hot again.

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/a/af/Short_Instrumental_Temperature_Record.png

Notice how warmer times correlate with El Nino's. Cooler times with La Nina's. We've just gone into a La Nina (considering how 150mm of rain has fallen in two months here) hence cooler times til the next El Nino. The only anomaly is 1993-1994, but big, big volcanic eruptions will do that. Pinatubo hasn't seemed to had a major effect beyond that year or two.

Notice, however, the trend is always up.

I despise neopopulism in all its forms. We won't be here forever, but who are we to say 'after us, a deluge' in such a offhand way?

We at least could try.
