The European Commission has fined US computer giant Microsoft for defying sanctions imposed on it for anti-competitive behaviour.

Microsoft must now pay 899 million euros ($1.4bn; £680.9m) after it failed to comply with a 2004 ruling that it took part in monopolistic practices.

The ruling said that Microsoft was guilty of not providing vital information to rival software makers.

EU regulators said the firm was the first to break an EU antitrust ruling.

By your logic, I could come into your country and shoot up a mall, and claim "I'm not from here."
It doesn't matter where you're based, if you sell a product, you have to cope with the laws in that place.

Two things, EU bureaucrats.

1. Make your own damn code. If I have a recipe that everyone loves, I'm hardly going to release it to my competitors.

2. Don't use IE if you don't like it - I'm using FireFox on this computer and Opera on the other - and to make them default browsers it takes 3 clicks. Also, how the hell DO we download Firefox or Opera if we don't have a built-in web browser to get there?

I think that it would be more up to the International regulations than EUs regulations. Also American companies go to different places to avoid our laws (i.e. the diamond companies).
