For those of us that is familiar to Sarah O'Conner and "You Could be Mine" -by Axel Rose, it has finally happened.  Those that watched Battle Bots also might want to take notice.

The technology is there... Any thoughts?

I personally like the one from T3.  Smart liquid metal shit.. Then Star Trek deep space 9 ripped em off with that shape shifting sheriff.. um.. *cough.

But I could see a system tweaking out on all that moves until its ammo/power runs out, but then what?

GG the comment was about a "coincidence" of advertisement banner on the bottom to the reference of the song in my post.

to me, machines should never be involved in a decision about the life or death of a human being, much less being the only ones taking it.

Will they be like the Daleks and be completely incapacitated by stairs? If these killer robots are as smart as some I've seen, we'll be alright. Believe me a Vacbot that's thwarted by a strategically place pot plant doesn't really scare me .

I agree, a fair enough about having un-manned vehicles and such, but for a robot to make the decision as to whether or not to pull the trigger. That's going too far.

after my opinion this is all the fault of all the fucking weak ass liberals that are terrified of the least human loss not saying that it's a good thing that people die but i rather have a "real" army to fight for my country.

i wish we just wish the west had some balls and grew up and realised that soldiers are paid to put their life on the line and that they know the risk and are not supposed to be looked at as kids in a daycare.

and i by no means that believe that a soldiers life is not worth very much but we have become very soft in regards of our loss of combatants especially the unit loss ratio is pretty darn good in iraq in this war.

Those three autonomous robots that went to Iraq never fired a shot, and would only have done so with a Human at the controls.  Modern UCGVs are all controlled by people.  All they do is prevent someone from getting shot.  Granted, nothing will replace Boots on the ground, but if a robot can save a US soldier's life, I'm down.

Artificial intelligence doesn't really exist. It's a misnomer of sorts. It is a simulation of human thinking and nothing more. There isn't an adequate Turing-test in existence to suggest real consciousness is remotely possible in code on a CISC chip. Autonomous self-replicating conscious silicon will most likely never happen. Anything we create that seems less dumb than the last robot - will have a technological shelf life, will be programmed by people, will only marginally exceed the initial programming in terms of learning, will need to be maintained/serviced by people, etc.

Any robot we create is just a tool, like a hammer is a tool, or a gun is a tool (as in - a killing tool), or a paint-brush and so on. They're an extension of the human mind and the human populous. They're opposable-thumb/mind extensions.

I like tools: hammers, computers, paint-brushes, robots...
