Advertising, using whatever means to get your attention. I remember Levi's getting some nerd to pose in their jeans, and people always remembered him. Pairs flew off the hooks.

Clearly, this ad got to you, by its shear hideousness. I'd say mission accomplished. Others would say owned. Still, I have to say, it's pretty fugly. But there are far worse ads on the Net. Ones that give you epilepsy, play a sound when you start up the page (example: congrats, you've been selected to get a free Apple iPod ), or pop up on their own volition.
