I have had this exact same system running bf2 for over a year now. I had to reinstall my system as I got another hard drive. My old hard drive was a 60 GIG 7500RPM IDE Drive and I got a 80 GIG 10K RPM SATA Drive. When I installed my stystem I do what I normally do; I installed XP, Then my mobo drivers, my video card drivers and then my monitor drivers. I then do all the windows updates, update my graphics drivers and then install bf2 and then update punkbuster.
When I play bf2 in Single Player it works fine and I have no problems. When I try to play on Multiplayer things are not ok. As soon as I click join game (And sometimes I can't even click Join Game) it loads the map and it starts making the bf2 sounds and the computer just freezes. I can't even click CTRL-ALT-DEL or ALT-F4. I am not sure what is happening.
I have verified all my fans are working properly. I have a Zalaman CPU Cooler, A stock cooler on the Northbridge and a large (80mm?) fan on the back near the PSU.

2 Gig RAM
GeForce 8800GTS
550W Power Supply
