So, do you think they should make it illegal having alcohol at home?Kmarion wrote:
When you have a certain amount it goes to "intent to distribute". The punishment is different for those who have it for personal use.sergeriver wrote:
What is the difference between drugs and alcohol? Why you can keep alcohol in your home, but you can't have drugs? And how do you define possession? Is there a minimum in the US to be considered possession? Or any amount of cocaine is considered possession? How is the law with that?Kmarion wrote:
As stated in the other thread. People go to jail for possession and distribution. The only other reasons would be violating the law under the influence. It's not punishment for getting high, it's punishment for criminal behavior. I've seen obvious 'high" people standing right next to Police officers at big events. The Police can't do anything unless they present a threat to the community. There are police out there who genuinely care about these people also. Sometimes they will take them in for a couple hours on a minor violation just to get them sober and help prevent them doing worse to themselves.
There is no difference, alcohol is a drug.. and I'm getting tired of repeating my opinion to this point tbh. See other thread..lol

We should end the War on Drugs gradually. Part of this involves a greater focus on rehabilitation and less of a focus on incarceration.
Possession, in most states as far as I know, is a felony crime. That as an offense the penalty escalates in proportion to quantity of the illegal substance confiscated. Tis stupid...
Here's what should be illegal and have serious consequences (felony):
Selling to kids.
Using kids for distribution to other kids.
Criminal offenses committed under the influence or in direct relation to a habit.
&
Consumption under the age of 18 or 21 (lessor penalty of course, misdemeanor).
Simple possession (for legal adults) in any quantity. ANY!!! Should not be illegal.
Why? Jail time should be for the once who did harm to others. People who did drugs and only fked them selves up should go to rehab.

Nope they should be ignored. When they commit a crime against someone else, or try to, then they should be dealt with accordingly. They were sober and straight the day they decided to start doing drugs and made a choice. Money wasted on these people could and should be spent on cancer research or cystic fibrosis or given to a children's research hospital. I have no sympathy. The sooner they hurry up and snort deep, or shoot up deep, the quicker the rest of us ( the productive) can close ranks and move forward without their baggage.
Lowing, do you realize that, if no rehabs existed, there would actually be MORE drug related crime in America, not less?
and do you realize that if people took responsibility for themselves and their actions there would be ZERO drug related crimes in America??Turquoise wrote:

...and when did most people act responsibly? Most people aren't very bright or very responsible. Surely, we can agree on that.
Yup we can, all people that are irresponsible or dumb are not drug addicts. But it is safe to say that ALL drug addicts are irresponsible and not very bright. Surely we can agree on that, and as such, I support cutting this dead weight loose.Turquoise wrote:

What if this "dead weight" decides to cut you loose instead for drug money?
you can "what if" me to death turquoise, I am noy gunna play that game.. try a more focused argument for dragging these people with us through society.Turquoise wrote:

ps....... i got guns as well......................and I am sober
Considering how many drug addicts out there kill people for drug money, do you think it will improve the situation any by ending rehabs for those who actually seek to kick their habits?
capital punishment
I am willing to bet MOST drug related crimes are committed between users and dealers, either way, a death in these groups does little to cause me sleep deprivation................or pause for that matter.Turquoise wrote:

Commie, I have to ask. Are you actually a conservative Christian now, or are you just parodying conservatism? You used to be a semi-socialist.CommieChipmunk wrote:

You are talking as if rehab is the answer to all of our prayers, well the fact is REHAB already exists and there are more drugs on our streets than ever before. Clearly it does little to curb drug use.Turquoise wrote:

I say make it legal, let people make their choices and let them live or die by them.
Drug users do not go out and kill innocent people for drugs for the most part. They go out and kill the people they know HAVE the drugs..
First, you're wrong about the amount of drugs out there. There were a lot more drugs out on the street (per capita) before we started banning things like pot. Various "elixirs" were sold in the late 1800s and early 1900s, which often had things like cocaine in them.lowing wrote:

It is true that drug use seems to be getting worse as compared to the last decade or so, but this probably has more to do with the ease at which crystal meth can be made than anything to do with rehabs (positively or negatively).
Lastly, you are simply wrong on your last part. Many neighborhoods are victimized by drug addicts. Addicts will often attack neighbors to get drug money if they are desperate enough.
Ok, I am not going to bother to look up stats so you win........I will speak for myself and say, I am not worried in the slightest that a crackhead is gunna break into my house at any minute and murder me and my family for drug money. If you are, I am sorry for you.Turquoise wrote:

The point is, drug addicts are not worth saving, they were not addicts before their drug use and therefore made a conscious decision to do something they knew was wrong, addictive and dangerous. If they did not care, I certainly will not.
If they come to my house looking for drug money, they will be shot. See how simple it all can be?
I'm not worried because I live in a decent neighborhood. The people I'm worried about are the poor who live near the crackheads.lowing wrote:

See, I wouldn't have a problem with just letting all addicts off themselves if it was that easy.
The only part of the War on Drugs that I actually support is the part where addicts are forced into rehab, so that they can become useful people again.
The costs we incur from crime by addicts far outweighs what is spent on rehabs. My suggestion is we spend more on rehabs to reduce crime and addiction overall.
You get caught breaking the law, you should go to jail.
But we should try helping them as well. Otherwise they're just gonna do it again.

I think perhaps people under the influence of drugs should have the same legal rights as a child, for example, on that show Intervention they can MAKE them stay, especially when the person is a fucking meth-head bitch I'd just love to punch in the face.
Only if they commit a crime other than the drug use or possession (violent crime or theft). There are many drug users and addicts that lead a productive life and contribute to society. Their drug problem is just that, their problem, when it becomes other peoples problems is when they should be arrested.
In the USA would should focus on real criminals. People who rob, steal, rape and kill. The "system" makes a lot of money from drug users. They have time to track down petty drug users for arrest, but do not have time to finger print for car theft and home burglary. About the only time they show up in my city for home burglary is when a firearm is stolen. They only want the information about the firearm and couldn't care less about the other items stolen or damaged. Contractors and thieves are rarely investigated even when all the evidence of their illegal activities is provided to the police. It really is sad, but our system is failing to remove the problems from our society.
