I know I posted this before, but I reformatted and it's still doing this.

So everytime I play COD4 on my computer it freezes about 5 minutes into a round or less.

At first I thought this was a RAM issue so I switched around my sticks of RAM to determine if I had a bad one. I did, so I removed it. But that did not fix my problem.

Every time I load into a round in COD it freezes. I mean the entire computer freezes. So i have to reboot.

I'm pretty sure its something game related because it only freezes like this when I play call of duty.

help/suggestions?

its almost surely your PSU or your video card if you've eliminated ram. specs?

Have you tried updating your video card drivers?

yeah, I just reformatted so I have the most up-to-date drivers for my card.

It's getting kind of ridiculous because I can almost time it now, it happens close to the same time.

its still sounds like a memory issue.  usually a hard crash is either ram or processor, but since it only happens when u start gaming, i bet its ram.

That Video card isn't going to run cod4 well if at all.

Download Memtest86+ and run it for around 4 hours on each memory stick (individually),

Then if that passes, download Prime95 or Orthos, and test your CPU for around 10 hours.

Reply with results.

Gotcha downloading as I speak, but I'm sorry, not very familiar with that kind of file, how do I use it? It's not an exe or anything like that.

You sure about that? My family computer is running a nvidia geforce 7600 GT downstairs and it runs great, I can turn most settings all the way up.

The only difference between my computer and that one is it has 2 more gigs of ram than mine.

Your family's computer is better than yours, sorry to say.

A 7600GT is much better than an 8400GS.

With memtest, you burn a bootdisk with the file. Leave the CD in the drive, and shut down. When you restart, hit your BIOS key, enter the BIOS, and change your boot order to CD/DVD drive first. Save the changes and exit. it will boot up into the memtest and run.

It can but it is the very low-end of 8-series, while 7600 is mid-high-end of 7-series. Compare yourself:

Wow, thank you. I had no idea.

Being the noob here I thought the higher you went the better the card was. +1

LOL!

i had a geforce 6800, 512 ram, and a pentium 4.

it ran cod4 on high textures, but no extras, and was completly playable, only slightly laggy when you look down the way of the road on overgrown.
