Well I just got my comp back from this problem, but now it's done it again, I didn't think it was 2 bad at first as it usually worked when the restarted, but one day it froze at the screen where you can choose to go into the bios, and even with restarts it wouldn't correct itself.

Now, it sticks sometimes after that screen where I can pick to go to Windows or Windows Recovery, I want to get this fixed in case it'll decide freeze at the bios screen again

Here's some info, it was fine when I got it last night, but after I tried install a Scanner, an error came up on screen there was no code or anything, it was a "Windows Data Prevention Error" and the it said Windows Explorer was the problem, but that can't be :S can it?

So has anyone experienced a problem like this before? and is there any Negatives from doing a Repair with the windows CD?

Not an issue I've seen before, but I can answer your last question:

Yes and no.

A repair will often solve software issues, however, if your windows install has had lots of updates and additional software installed, it can cause more problems than it fixes - sometimes it's quicker to start again with a clean re-install.

If your PC froze on the BIOS screen then it's not software related, because no software is loaded at that point.

Download Memtest86+ to check for RAM errors, and download Prime95/Orthos to check CPU for errors.

IrishGrimReaper - is that what is happening - that it freezes during POST?

My impression was that that happened once, but now it either freezes during windows boot, or you get errors in windows.

If it does freeze on POST, then CrazeD is correct - it's a hardware issue.

If it doesn't freeze on POST, then it may still be a hardware issue, but software issues are easier to diagnose and remedy (with a repair/reinstall).

Yeah it's freezing as post, and I did add quite a bit of new hardware to it(New power supply, Graphics Card, 2GB ram), but odd tough is that after all the stuff was in everything was fine for days, then after I got a Data Prevention Error, that's when it started to freeze.

I have restarted a load of times since I made the OP, and since I haven't had the error before any of the restarts, it hasn't froze :S

I'm gonna wait it out to see if it comes back and if it does, would us suggest reinstalling windows or what?

ps: It can't be faulty hardware, cause after this started happening I changed around the parts to what came with the comp and it was the same problem.

Hmm... OK... Fraid that does sound more like a hardware issue - if you ignore all the hardware that you've changed, what's left? Mobo, CPU, HDDs and Optical drives?

Out of those Optical drives are the least likely to cause that kind of issue. And the rest... well, could be any of them - HDDs are probably the easiest to check (by swapping out for known working ones) - and the CPU is probably slightly more likely than mobo, but not by much.

Well I don't know if this helps, but it may be your new scanner you connected.

Because I've had experiances with items such as scanners, printers, mp3 players, etc, being connected to my computer and it freezing at startup. As soon as I unplugged the hardware and restarted, it was fine.

But my case might could've been a unique issue. hope it helps though.
