So this Friday I was for the first time in my life in a courtroom. I was there because I was the only eyewitness to a inadvertent manslaughter of 3 ppl in a car accident. The driver was intoxicated, drove way to fast, like 130-150 kmh (80-93 mph), ran a red light and thus hit a car which had a green light in the same intersection. The driver didn't even apply the brakes, he just smashed into the other car with roughly 140 kmh. In the other car were 3 men on there way home from work.

This was in the middle of the night (1 am) back in November. I was walking home from a conference dinner where I have had only like 5 or 6 draught beer. When i reached this intersection I had a red man (you know... a no go) but i still crossed the first half of the road (it was a 4 lane road in total), when i began crossing the 2nd part of the road I still had a red man until halfway out when it changed to green. At the exact moment that i reached the other side of the road I heard this big bang followed by smaller bang. I turned around and saw two cars smashed together. The small bang was because the cars had crashed into the relay box which controlled the traffic signal lights. I ran over to the two cars, and the drive of the car that had run the red light got out of his car (small red 3 door Citroen) and was shocked like you couldn't imagine and didn't respond to what I said to him. I turned to the passenger seat and saw another boy with cuts and blood all over his face. He opened the door and kinda threw himself out of it and on to the curb grass. I talked to him and found out that they were all from the republic of Estonia, so they didn't understand any danish only English. I looked into the backseat and saw 3 girls just sitting there screaming and crying, but they looked like they were unharmed. I then went to the 2nd car (A silver colored Ford). Couldn't see anything so i turned on the LED light in my cell phone. Then i could see everything. I saw the driver of the car folded together with bones sticking out from his back and barely any face left. He lay on top of another guy in the backseat sticking out of the back window. The guy on the passenger seat was using a seat belt, but he was still dead at impact. He had blood from the mouth, a clearly broken neck, and a massive cut from the seat belt into his body. I could do nothing for them...so I just call it in. The only time i panicked was when the light from my cell phone caught a child seat in the back of the car, I searched for a child the best I could, I even moved one of the 2 dead men laying in the back (as much as possible of course) to see if I could see a child....but there were no child in the car thank god.

Moments after some retards showed up and tried to take pictures of the dead ppl with there cell phones, i simply knocked one of the down and threw his cell phone as fare away as I could. The other guys just left then. Then the police and some ambulances arrived shortly after that.

This was in November, and Friday the 29 of Feb. the driver stood trial for his involvement in the accident. He was only 22 years old, a student at the local business collage, and where driving a company car. He had been to a tequila party (????) downtown with his friends, which he offered to drive home afterwards. He look like a normal guy, nothing bad in him at all. He just fucked up i guess. I felt sorry for him. I looked at him when I  in detail described to court what I had seen that night. He was with out a doubt remorseful. He was found guilty of all charges and sentenced 2 years in jail and to be deported to Estonia when he had served his time in jail. I saw how his mother and brothers broke down crying, I saw how his friends broke down crying all the while the relatives to the 3 dead men was somewhat cheering. I have never ever felt so bad as i did that day.  I was the only witness to the accident, and I was the one who proved that he ran a red light thus earning him a deportation and 2 years instead of only half a year in jail and no deportation...... to this moment I still feel unbelievable bad.

Mind you all there is a lot more details to this story which i just didn't wrote down, it may seem a bit incoherent or just like a rambling description of the events and I apologies for that. Just ask if you there is something that doesn't make any sense.

EDIT: You can see a picture of the remains of one of the cars here.

Damn that must have been difficult for you, but 2 years? That still seems a good deal to me.

That must be horrific having to see dead people, and in that state too, something I never want to see.

Kudos to you for searching for a child, again must have been difficult having to move the dead body, you did what you should have done, don't feel bad.

it was a good deal jail time wise that is.....the maximum he could have gotten was 6. But the deportation was one of the reasons that he "only" got 2 years

Try not to feel bad about that asshole. As Jamesey said, feel bad for the people who died because he was an irresponsible fuckwit. You weren't responsible for his deportation, his idiocy was.

Just what I was gonna say.

It sucks that guy, who seemed like a decent person, had to be deported and go to jail. But you know what, those are the consequences and he had to deal with them. It would've been injustice to the victims if you didn't testify against that drunk-driving lunatic.

I felt exactly the same way form the day it happened and until I stood in front of him in the court room....Every day until that day I hated myself for not smacking him down after realising that he was unharmed, I truly believed that he deserved that. But when I stood beside him in the court, it was clear to see that he was only a kid. His mother and brothers were all present, and they were devastated when they heard he was going to be deported. the look they gave me hurt like hell, and I cannot get it out of my head. maybe it is just me.

I have a hard time feeling sorry for someone who even considers driving while drunk or high.
Three innocent men died.

Driving under the influence should have almost the same punishment as murder.

Edit: I'm sure it's difficult, but keep in mind that it was his fault and no-one elses. He got off easy, 2 years for killing 3 people.
Don't feel bad about your self. Remember that every sensible person agrees with your decision.

He killed THREE guys through his reckless driving AND deprived several families of their loved ones, FOREVER! THEY ARE NOT COMING BACK!

So HOW can you feel guilty about wot you did? I think you'd have felt even more guilty if you hadn't testified. That guy snuffed out 3 lives and has paid the consequences. HE IS THE ONE who should live with the guilt. You, on the other hand, haven't killed anybody. The guy's getting deported, at least he's STILL ALIVE AND his family can STILL SEE HIM, unlike the other 3 unfortunate souls.

You did wot you had to do so now it's time to move on.

I am so sorry man I have no Idea what to say but Shit Happens. No matter how in sensitive that sounds but it is true there is nothing you could do and If you dident witness it the guy would have got off with it. I think 2 years is the right sentence it sucks to go to jail but he killed 3 people so I guess he got what he deserved its hard to say that < but its the truth I guess. I am sorry man it must Really suck to have thow Images in your head I am so sorry man!
