I can't view the video for some reason, but am somewhat familiar with the topic. I knew there was a movement that supported the nazis in Britian, but it always seemed to me that they were really more "anti-communist" than "pro-fascist" and their support was only in response to their fear of the communist threat.

The first link worked fine for me. It was interesting but tbh I dont know what to think of it. I dont know the guys who did it personally so I have no idea what their reasons were for doing it, whether they believed in Nazi ideals or if they were just trying to get out of prisoner of war camps.

Reminds me of that Band of Brothers episode where one of the German POW's was actually a homegrown American fighting for the Fatherland

That shit is fucked up, but I can see how people would have allegiance to their ancestral lands

I think most of them just wanted to escape captivity and harsh prison conditions. Though some would say: I'd die first before wearing a German uniform especially SS. As would I.

I have 2 children, I am thinking as a father would. Live at any expense to see my kids again. I guess its hard to pick between country or children. I am the biggest patriot around, hell I even play for a football club by the name of St Georges FC. I am a soldier and a father, I find the choices taken of the soldiers of the British Free Corps hard to contemplate. Would I or wouldn't I? Would you to stay alive?

Has no one heard of Lord Haw-Haw? There was definitely a strata of British society that were decidedly pro-fascist and so thus weren't entirely anti-war (or anti-Germany, for that matter). Lord Haw-Haw was probably the figurehead of that movement. It was definitely a hugely taboo subject, and talking about it in the streets back then would almost definitely be a risk to your health .

He had pretty much got away with what was considered treason until an Allied soldier recognised his voice (extremely idiosyncratic style, hence his posh-mocking nickname)- and then captured him. He was hanged for it. Oopsie.

Thanks for your info Uzique. +1 to you.

Definitely a tabboo subject. Many English born Germans answered the call to arms from Germany in the early days of Nazism, much the same English born Muslims are answering the call to arms via 'Al-Qaeda'. Same difference anyone?

I'm kinda thinking the same as well but, they didn't actually 'fight' even though they wore the uniforms. They were more of a propaganda experiment I feel.

People were often executed for less.

Exactly. Back then people were more patriotic than they are now I feel. Just always fascinated me how someone with ideals and beliefs can be manipulated by such ideals as Nazism, more recent terror organisations. Normal people with good intentions can turn bad, or against ones normal beliefs. Goes to show people are fickle. Still I am torn between Treason or self-preservation.

I might've taken the opportunity. Who knows how much damage could be done by inside jobs?

But to make it to the SS and probs stay in the SS, you had to be really in with the whole Nazi program, and you had to prove it.
