Has anyone here had it done to them? I know my Grandma has, that's about it. Everything seems to be cool, but I was thinking of getting it myself (my eyes have always been perfect until recently, and although I haven't visited the Optician yet, I'm fairly sure they will prescribe me glasses)

My eyesight has taken a down since overusing the computer etc.. and instead of getting glasses I just want to do Laser Eye Surgery, but I just wanna find out if anyone here has done it and what it's like

It's not that expensive here, I'd say it would only cost about a grand to do it (both eyes)

And if I'm going to join the military, I really don't want to go in with glasses.

Hmm, considering how service personel get treated here after being injured, and how the government is constantly cutting the budget, I wouldn't hold my breath on it. But I'll look into it

If it's true well, joining the military seems like the best thing ever. It would make me wonder why not alot of people would sign up, I've always actually wondered that. There's so much potential in the military, why don't people sign up (is it really the danger? I don't think it's THAT dangerous)

Remember like you said, you probably have a higher chance of getting killed on the way to work

Best thing I've ever done.  I was going to have reading glasses anyway later on in life, so what the hell.

Simple, painless and quick recovery.  I can now see thru time.

Its coz most people are lazy and dont want to go through the process of becoming fit. Also laser eye surgery has potencial but I'm gonna wait a few more years until they get the little details sorted out before I go for it. However glasses do make you look smart

Most likely the RAF or Navy. I'm going to get serious about it during the summer or perhaps this easter break. Check out some places etc.. the usual stuff. I'll probably do my degree before I serve. Unless I really get sick of it all (Uni life etc..) and join up after my 1st year of Uni.

I need some discipline, I want some excitement and I also want some more respect. I beleive that signing up will give me that. It'll also look awsm on my CV

FEW people like the Navy.
and as for going into the service with laser eye correction...errm, i don't think that's possible if you want them to pay for it.  you get what you give most of the time; so after you're in, you might be able to get them to pay for it, but not before (i think).
and if i were you i'd shell out a little more for PRK rather than lasek.

Yeah. I wouldn't expect them to do it before I sign up, I'll probably end up getting it done privatley before I sign up though.

How much would normal eye surgery cost?

$500?
$700?
$10000?

How about just $12! Fully trained. Fully licensed. Fully Jewish.

Jewish!

it around £500 an eye here in the UK, they have adverts all over the TV for it, i was going to have it done, but after talking to the optician he said he would hardly be worth having it done unless you have severe eye sight problems, i have a astigmatism anyway, that mean one of my eyes is shaped like a rugby ball inside and it would prob make no difference at all.

My friend was'nt allowed to join the army if he had laser eye surgery in the past regardless of how successful it was. So he waited until he was in the army to get the operation, strange rule's!

Worked reallly well for him, hurt for a few days and then he was great.

Here is a video of the procedure. Personally, i'd rather wear glasses.

It's slightly graphic, so DO NOT click if you are squeamish!

Btw, the flap never heals and can cause serious complications.

I believe you have to wait until you are old enough, something to do with your eyes still growing/changing till somewhere in your twenties.

Although, as soon as I have the money + medical approval I'm getting rid of my +4,75 eyes ASAP.
