Vortex Buffer Error?? helpz?

Ok this is kinda lulz...

My modern history teacher plays Counter Strike: Source... his been having problems lately when he goes into the game it goes blank and an error saying Vortex Buffer Error comes up...

His specs are (im not quite sure... he wasnt very helpful)

Intel (not sure on exact make) Dual core 2.0 Ghz
2GB DDR2 RAM
nVidia 7600 GT
(i gather its some pre-built thing)

So whats the problem? apart from 7600 being a shit card.

It's probably 'vertex', not 'vortex', but anyway...

Could be RAM, GPU, CPU, HDD or software...

Get him to try updating/reinstalling drivers and game, as aimless suggests.

If that doesn't help he can test his ram with memtest86.

He should also check his GPU and CPU temps (ATITool will show GPU temps, Sandra or similar will display CPU temp).

And his HDD with something like Hitachi Drive Fitness Test (does work on some non-hitachi HDDs, but not all - ideally he needs the drive fitness tester from the maker of his HDD(s))

thanks for the help... personally i dont think its a overheating problem...
ill tell him to re-install drivers etc etc.

chances are he will just give his comp to me and ill try to fix it... ill diagnose the problem soon.

remember his only a teacher... his not rich... although he doesnt have kids so that might help

and he also had problems of when it got the error it shut down his monitor.
