I just played some ESL gathers, but my mates didn't seem to hear me.

I just installed it today because of the new hd, setted the key to speak, checked the output volume ect.

What could be the problem?

Try a different mic just to double check ... because i asume you have checked the connection to the computer ...

Check:

Is your mic properly connected to the right port on your computer?
yes? > go to next question
no? > plug the damn thing in the good port!

Does the windows sound recorder record your sound?
yes? > sound setting problem in TS
no? > sound settings wrong in windows / broken mic

Does another mic work for you?
yes? > your first mic is fucked
no? > sound settings problem

Sound settings can be found in "configuration panel > hardware & sounds > sound > tab record" (windows vista). talk in your microphone and see if one of the bars is moving with green spikes (see screenshot).

one of the bars should be looking like this when you are talking/making sounds in your mic:
