Why does Australia get ripped off so hard on tech stuff?

I can understand we are a smaller market etc, but I have a few examples. (Bear in mind $ 1 AU = $0.95 US). I also realise that this exchange rate has recently increased a fair bit, but it has been much more than 50/60c to the dollar (like it was when I visited the US 5 years ago).

iPod Touch 32GB.

AU: $629
US: $499

Intel Q6600.

AU: $299
US: $245

nVidia 8800GT.

AU: $240
US: $230

Okay, scrap "tech" lets make it "Why does Australia get jewed so hard on apple stuff?".

I want a 32gb ipod touch for $500 dollars

I guess this is kind of pointless.

For instance, the price of Subway in Australia Vs. England is a joke.

Subway charge the same numbers, but change the sign ($5.00 for something in Australia is 5 pounds)

Subway is 2.4~ times more expensive in England.

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity.
