I need your help.  When I was going to College I loved the fact that I was able to work as an intern.  I want to return the favor and convince my current employer that its a benefit.

Can you guys give me some pointers I could bring up to the CEO?

Free/cheap help. Plus, you can oftentimes hire them permanently afterwards and avoid the big learning curve you normally have with new hires. It also gives the senior people a feeling of accomplishment to be able to help mentor a noob.

Free labor.  It gives the company first chance at actually hiring the interns when they graduate.

You can get at a wide assortment of people, before they have been tainted by any other offers, at colleges for interns. If you get them early enough they will be happy to get the work experience, and you can find the really, truly bright competent people before they gets sucked up by another larger company like Google. It gives you a much better pool to look at when you're looking to permanently hire then the people who are looking for a job with experience. (they're looking for a job for a reason, they're not the best out there)

There was a really good article about this in Inc. magazine a few months ago, maybe it can be found online.

Oh yeah, and gimme a job lol.

1. Cheap labor
2. It's a trial period, risk free for the hire period is temporary
3. If they're good, keep them
4. Increased morale due to more sex with interns

pretty much...minus the last option.

....my current employer started me as an intern, six months later i have worked my way up to an Account Executive position.  Usually if an intern is motivated enough to seek out and want an internship...usually that is a good sign that your looking at someone with positive potential and can be a true asset.  Plus you get to evaluate them without ties.

interns get paid here in the US as well..just depends on the company.  Usually they will if you state your case that you need income...and its a valid reason.

When i was an intern i got paid...not anything crazy ($8/hr) but...i was an intern for like 3 months...and then started moving up which is ultimately the point.

boring?  I think you need an internship.  we had three interns quit already because it was too stressful, and they were getting paid.

lol. Thats very low sum compared with what you would get in the UK. But then agian Internships are INCREDIBLY competitive in the UK. Like for Gold man Sachs some incredible no. of ppl applied (tens of thousands) they only have like 50 internship spots or something.

I don't see what your boss needs convincing for.  If he doesn't see the advantage of interns, he might be a little dumb.

I did Work Experience in Year 10 (14/15 year olds) in some Office in West London. Boring as fuck. I can't believe I had to do it for 2 weeks.

Different from an internship. My work Experience wasnt too bad, i actually did real things rather than just photocopying, getting tea etc.
