Wow look at all these armchair generals.
Generals? Armchair grunts.
Only in an armchair now after more than a dozen years playing in the dirt and mud for real.

Oh, and before the army (and during my National Guard years) I worked in shooting ranges for a couple years.

Experience does speak, occasionally.

Well the Magpull gun would be awesome if it was 6.8x48mm instead of 5.56 and could still Fire 7.56x39

M16\M4 is fine for modern war conditions - as long as your keep your rifle clean. However it won't be as good in WWIII, but lets all hope that it won't happen. From what I've watched\read M4 have some problems with overheat and accuracy due to shortened barrel.

If we used nuclear weapons indiscriminately, then there would be no need for an M-16 replacement.

The overheating problem is more due to the direct gas system than the shorter barrel.  It is also a problem on the M16, but less so.  THe direct gas system also fouls the chamber up with a quickness.  The piston system is more reliable, keeps the weapon cooler, and keeps the chamber cleaner.  The problem is that it costs more money than the direct gas system.

Also, the M4/M16 system is starting to get a bit heavy, once all those cool modern attachments are added on.  Like a reflex sight, night vision monocle, cowitnessed scope, ir and visible light laser, tac light, grenade launcher, etc...

Interestingly enough, yes.

I'm no master with weapons, but that SCAR looks sweet.

HK416 and SCAR are meant to replace the m4a1, not the m16. The xm8 project has been canceled, but its intention was to replace the m4 and m16. The magpul ,however, I know nothing of.

The irony of guns, is that they can save lives.

That is the great thing.  The Magpul can be switched from 5.56 to 6.8 to 7.62x39.  It is designed to run all 3.  And the switch in thr rifle takes less than 3 minutes.

The ACR is initially only being introduced in 5.56, with the 6.8 and 7.62x39 to follow.
