I know this is an old issue.  I try to bind a key of my mouse for opening my parachute, but it says there is another control using that key.  I checked over and over again and it is not.

I really did not see a good way to fix this other than manually editing a file.  I have been playing BF2 for 2+ years now and until now have never had this problem.  The only things I changed lately is I went from a Logitech 510 to a Logitech 518 mouse.  A month or so ago added the AIX mod.

I tried re-installing the 1.4 patch, but it did not change.

DO I need to do a full re-install?

You could probably do it fairly easily by editing your controls file, rather than reinstalling...

I'll let someone else advise you on what to change

Make a copy of your controls.con file first (most likely in My Documents/Battlefield 2/Profiles/001) before you set controls to default, just in case you want to do some manual file-editing.

Make sure its not also assigned under land vehicle/water vehichle...ect.

Sometimes you have to delete it from the vehicles, add it on the main controls, then re-assign it on vehicles.

Tried this..  No cigar.  I did find the solution.  The problem related to the MX518 mouseware.  I had mapped some keys.  This somehow conflicted with BF2.  Once I set the mouseware to default settings everything worked fine.

Why not just put parachute on space bar? (you can still have jump on spacebar too)

Parachute pull with space bar
1. Go to bf2 and bind secondary key for parachute (Y for example)
2. Now you have these two lines in the Controls.con file (C:\Documents and Settings\Your Name\My Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\Your main profile\)

ControlMap.addKeyToTriggerMapping c_PIWeaponSelect9 IDFKeyboard IDKey_9 10000 0
ControlMap.addKeyToTriggerMapping c_PIWeaponSelect9 IDFKeyboard IDKey_Y 10000 1

3. replace the bottom one with this

ControlMap.addKeyToTriggerMapping c_PIWeaponSelect9 IDFKeyboard IDKey_Space 10000 1
