Not even the kids are gonna want one of these. Is it even x86-based?

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP
is this the one they are giving to poor people in the 3rd world?

once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.
The idea is not so much 'leet' but more "everyone in the world should have, and be able to afford a laptop". I think it's absolutely ingenious!
tbh freezer most of your "rigs" you describe seem to be of a similar specFreezer7Pro wrote:

And the whole "Third world PC" idea is idiotic. If the poor bastards can't afford food for the day, why should they spend half a year's income on a computer that they won't have any use for anyhow. I don't think they're gonna give them away for free.If they do, they're not gonna give it to everyone.
That's when people get killed.

Well if these laptops would go to schools etc, that would be great. It would mean kids in third world country's will be able to use recourses such as the internet for a better education. They also would get a chance to talk to people in other country's, become a part of a community such as bf2s and learn more about the world.
The third world laptops are given out for free to students, and despite the generalisation, far from all children in Africa are starving. There are many ongoing projects that are working very well. Idiotic? Hardly.Freezer7Pro wrote:

Why does it matter if it's x86 based?
The fact that the site says "playing" makes me laugh. That laptop will handle basics, and for that, its an ingenious idea for kids, but for playing? Come on. What exactly? Minesweeper?
I read a story about those laptops they give to the starving African kids, some of the boys were caught looking at porn with the laptops at school.
I lol'd when I read that.

"Elonex ONE - The UK's first sub £100 Laptop" implies that it's to be sold and marketed in the UK. A very vast majority of "kids" as they seem to aim for, are used to the Windows UI, and will propably want to run it over some unknown new operating system that can't even run their favourite music player and IM clients. I'm not bashing Linux, I love and use Linux myself, but people in these parts of the world are used to Windows being equal to PC. If the OS can't be changed due to architecture, it's going to be a lot more limited than it already is due to it's low specs.mikkel wrote:

People will use what they're given. They won't have a clue it's even possible to put Windows on it. The OS will come with IM and music players.Freezer7Pro wrote:

If this had been a £1000 laptop, choice would've mattered. When you pay £100, though, you aren't buying a "Windows" machine - you're buying a machine for a purpose that you know it will handle. Architecture in this case is largely irrelevant.Freezer7Pro wrote:

Given the averege computer understanding-level of the averege european/american family, I think not.mikkel wrote:

Heh, then you think wrong. This is really time-proven to the point where your speculation isn't going to raise any doubts regarding the feasibility of non-Windows embedded operating systems.Freezer7Pro wrote:

even Africans get a laptop but I don't have one.... *snifff*
but seriously... give them food and water, not these laptops... If I were African and someone gave me that laptop, I would sell the laptop for food....
