OK, but do I need a new processor any time soon? I mean if it's a must, not if I can do without for another year.

You need a new processor, it's bottlenecking your card.

Don't listen to the people who say more RAM, they overestimate the benefits of that extra gig, that's less important than upgrading your processor right now.

What is the wattage on you power supply? Wont the 8800gt throttle down if it's lacking power?

Anyways.....

You can pick up 2gb ddr2 800mhz ram for $45 and an intel C2D @ 2.66 Ghz for $189.

Dual core.  Single cores, even at 3.0ghz are a huge bottleneck.  HT ("2 CPUs") is insufficient.

I have a Pentium D 3.40 Ghz (2 CPUs) and my video card (8800 GTS 320mb) runs fine. I bet its the RAM. Are you running Vista or XP? If Vista, 2GB of RAM is a MUST.
