The authorities being allowed to check my emails, tap my phone or detain me without proper cause will not protect my country. It just allows for lazy work for the security services; the authorities should do their fucking jobs properly and keep tabs on the actual bad guys. I just don't get the way some people think on this on this issue ...take the US for example; many people are happy to give up their civil liberties while not batting an eyelid when the authorities give half the Bin Laden family special permission to leave the US on 9/11.usmarine wrote:

I wouldn't want to live in a country where everyone is treated like a suspected terrorist.
Well they tried what you are talking about before 9/11........lots of good it did. I prefer the first part of your response.Braddock wrote:

Your question is relevant to the topic, but one step further. First, you should ask yourself if you are ok with the government asking you to sacrifice your rights. Both questions are pretty mych the same tbh.Turquoise wrote:
The flaw in this thread's theme is that we usually don't have a choice in the matter when a government decides to take away our rights.
A better question is probably: Would you revolt against the government if they took away your rights?
My answer would probably be, "No, I'd do everything possible to flee the country."
your rights and civil liberties are what make your country. Other than that its just land.
