Pretty much the idiots on the first page that said 'nothing good can come from home schooling' and 'good home schooling sucks'.

Many of them that said it like that, either have some kind of complex where they feel threatened by homeschoolers, or they have absolutely no clue about the benefits/pitfalls of home schooling, and are just saying things to conform with whoever last repped them, in hopes of receiving another blessed karma point.  I'm going to guess the majority are blind conformists and fall into the latter category.

I was home schooled for a year or so, and I turned out just fine.  It was the only viable option for a time, so we went with it.  I also know others that have been home schooled for periods of time and they have turned their lives around 180.  It's something different, not necessarily the best option, but to say it's a terrible idea is ignorant.  It's very possible to get an education at the same level of your public-schooled peers with effort and a decent curriculum.

I think a lot of the blind haters might just know one person that was home schooled. Usually the weird girl that no one ever talks to.  So they base their entire generalized opinion off of her.

FFS I homeschool and I'm in the GUSD.  I am 16 and in my senior year, I'm almost done.

Why the fuck does everybody seem to hate homeschool so damn much?  You think everyone should have to deal with the overcrowded schools, peer pressure, drugs, possibility of school shootings, and whatnot?  I'm a social outcast, I need homeschool basically.  And if all of you guys think that I should go to public school, screw you.

I think the main point should be that as may children as possible get a decent education. Wether that is through home schooling, public schools, or private schools, should be up to the individual.
However, I think we all agree that the state must set standards for all students to adhere to, and set minimum requirements for curriculums, and a sound and qualified teaching environment.
Also, a certain amount of diversification with regard to the curriculum must be upheld. I mean, how are you gonna know you might be interested in physics or chemics if you don't have access to a laboratory ?

Home schooling has its limitations. No parent knows everything, and some will even "steer" their children in a specific direction through home schooling, possibly holding their child back. No child should be put at a disadvantage because of the religious beliefs of its parents, for example.

To me, the idea of a good basic education is that it exposes the student to the whole spectrum of the sciences and arts, so he/she can make an educated (sic!) decision about what to do with his/her professional life, or when it comes to chosing a career path.

It is important that home school kids are equally prepared to go to college / university as those who attend regular schools, for example.
And to ensure that those standards are adhered to, I can fully understand why a state would want to make sure that home school teachers are qualified to teach.

As far as I know, home schooling is illegal in germany. Every child must attend a regular school from a certain age. This is simply to ensure that a comparable standard of all students in germany is upheld.

I could certainly imagine a system in which students would have to take regular standardized tests from time to time, to ensure that their education meets the standards, up until the SAT's.
But I also think that such a "liberal" system would be a nightmare to administrate and regulate.

If I lived in california and had to go to a public school I would end up blowing it up or killing someone.

Not sure what thats supposed to mean. If anyone tried to "bully" me I would probably kill their family and castrate them.
