Somewhat reluctant to write this, particularly when the hardware is not officially out as of yet, however, unless all the major hardware websites are all being badly informed, it would appear this info here seems pretty solid. My frequent visits to my usual tech sites, reading this that and the next thing, there seems to be a concencious that nvidia, namely, this 'new' 9 series line is pretty underwhelming, and infact to put it bluntly, crap.
The apparant specs of the new 9800GTX as they stand now, would mean it is simply a slight overclock on the current 8800GTS that so many of you own. More woringly, the 9800GTS is apparantly SLOWER than the current 8800GTS, although, there is somewhat ambiguety as to whether or not this is the GT or the GTS the info is talking about.
GeForce 9800GTS 600MHz 1800MHz 128 1500MHz
GeForce 8800GTS 675MHz 1984MHz 128 1688MHz

GeForce 9800GX2 128x2 600MHz 2000MHz March 18 $599

GeForce 9800GTS 128 600MHz 1800MHz April 4? $299

It really does seem a case that, for this new series of card, all they have done is crossed out the 8 and put in the 9 :\
I knew, nvidia wasnt going for a big leap this time, I think many people had fooled them selfs into thinking, the jump would of been as much as we saw when we went from 7>8. They stated that simply wouldnt be the case, it was to be more of an evolutionary step, rather than revolutionary. But this is neither. This is just lazy :\
I dunno about you guys, but I was hoping that the next GTX card would of been managing Crysis at 50fps (maybe not at the uber high res and filters, but you know, up there), it would appear you are going to have to go with the 9800GX2 if you want that (which doesnt bode well for Nvidia's Tri SLI, since you cant do that with the 9800GX2).
Like I said, we have yet to get the benchmarks and such, but I really dont see, how this evolutionary step is going to come about, with the exact same hardware
Any thoughts?
